So they have come out and said they are going to nuke America today or tomorrow. Should they be taken seriously?

For me if they did attack I could only see it going one way for them and that's china dropping them as allies and an American South Korean invasion and no more North Korea. They must be mad

Today or tomorrow? Bit vague. Least they can do is be specific.

As far as I know, they do not have the capability to launch anything that far.

Be interesting to see how this plays out, but long term cannot see it ending well.

Yeah that's what everyone seems to think but I think the yanks are taking it more seriously moving warships and missile defences into the area. All a bit worrying tbh

Their nukes can reach parts of Alaska but not the main United States.

It's a load of bluster by a tinpot dictator who's trying desperately to cling to power and ward the south (with it's US ally) from invading it. Shame they didn't do the job properly in the 1950s.

With China getting more involved, I can see things calming down a bit. It looks like north Korea are just trying to wind the US up, and its working.

not quite..... watch the language used...

what north korea has said is that have formally informed the US that it has approved "merciless" strike on us involving use of "cutting edge" weapons....

there don't have weapons with the range to hit the mainland us (alaska would be a stretch)... hawaii is too far.. and the us are moving defense weapons to guam...

they can't hit japan... because they have a treaty.. they could go after a us base in south korea.. but since they are in the middle of a joint exercise at the moment.. the time to strike wouldn't be when there are warships in the neighbourhood...

if anything it will be a skermish along some of the disputed islands between the north and south.. and then the interesting thing will be to see what the south does in response....

its all bluster.. food aid for backing down...

"With China getting more involved, I can see things calming down a bit. It looks like north Korea are just trying to wind the US up, and its working. "

the problem for north korea is that the UN resolution which started all this was written jointly by the US and the Chinese.... which is why it was voted 15-0 in the security council

china can try and rein them back in... but the fear for the chinese is that if anything does happen.. they will get the majority of any refugees flooding for the border...

Also quite importantly South Korea has a new President and she's being tested by the North.

north Down

It's a bargaining stance by the north to have later talks on getting the ever increasing sanctions lifted by making threats the us and un will engage with them and china will push for talks and force the US to respond by behind the scene's money and market threats ...

I would be very surprised if they did it today.

I hope it does not kick off I hate doing CBRN (chemical biological radiological nuclear) I can't see any invasion happening unless China and Russia are very least abstaining. We would have to have China on side it would be a very quick war with massive loss of life and would devastate the area. As much as China looks after north Korea I think the north Koreans are seriously annoying the Chinese.

But just to test you all

"GAS GAS GAS"

On in 5 doing fine. On in 9 just in time

Oh bugger it, we knew we should have spent more time exploring the fetish world. Their all right encased in rubber and wearing a gas mask. Don't think my Victoria's Secret maids outfit is going to cut the mustard when the bomb drops.

Somewhere near NE Derbyshire/S Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire border

Whats worrying is cause they are so secretive what exactly are their capabilities? Are they just showing us footage to make us believe they got nothing! Laughing and joking aside about them the thought of nuclear war scares the crap out of me

Surely if you are going to nuke somebody you don't let them know when

It's all just political posturing to gain more food aid. No one has pulled non essential personnel from the area yet, when they do, that's when you need to worry.

America have placed missile defence systems on Guam just in case they have got it horribly wrong. North Korea may have a huge arsenal and one of the worlds largest armies but they only have £8.97 to fund it....

with that budget they'll have to make do with a mass firecracker attack then

It's a good job I left my respirator in the car, although I don't think I can run there to get it in 9. Maybe I'll stroll down now and wear it at my desk just in case.
