Toasted perfectly. Slightly crispy, bit of a bite. Hate those pale, insipid, doughy things with not enough hole ratio.

Slightly cooled so the butter doesn't drip through on to my fingers (that can be fun though).

Has to be really good butter.

Sometimes have them with cheese or lemon curd, the perfect crumpet just needs butter though.
