Who knows about train tickets ?

So tomorrow I am travelling Manchester to Liverpool but need to stop off in Warrington for an hour on the way ?

Will I have to buy a return Manchester to Warrington and a return Warrington to Liverpool ?

Or can I just book a Manchester to Liverpool return and hop on and off in Warrington (as it is on the same line) ?

I travel from west country to cardiff regularly & always stop off in bristol on just my return ticket. Never once been pulled up for it.

If its on the same line and you've got a direct return (not a return in stages) then you're fine. You might have to ask the guard at Warrington to let you through the gates if there are ticket barriers though as the ticket might not work.

some tickets you have to state a time your getting the train, if you get one of those you wont be able to stop off as if you get your ticket checked after you get back on at warrington the time wont match the time you got on the train at Manchester if that makes sense, if you have a open time ticket you can get on and off where you like if its on route

Basically, don't try to reserve a seat as you'll be reserving it on a particular train at a particular time. Get a bog standard return and you can hop off at Warrington and then continue on your way when you've completed your business there.

is it on the way there... or on the way back?

and what time.....

if it on the way there... you'll need to buy 2 seperate tickets.....

if it on the way back... just the one return will be fine...

Yes you can, warrington doesn't have barriers so the ticket won't be retained etc

Maybe cheaper to split your tickets as you are crossing pte boundarys and can be cheaper to buy two tickets and split than buy one through ticket tho not always the case have you looked on trainline.com etc

oh.another thought could you try lime street - warrington central do your buisness then go bank quey - Victoria may work out cheaper SD different companys think you can travel any foute on return

Sometimes, "splitting the journey" by buying tickets for two different parts of the train can work out cheaper than buying one ticket whilst still travelling on the same train! Just make sure your train stops at the station you`re getting off at/getting on at! For example, a friend of mine used to travel quite often from Plymouth to Bristol. Then one day she travelled to Taunton and was astounded at the difference and out of curiosity checked the price from Taunton to Bristol had she joined the train she just left. The sum of the two tickets was much less than if she bought one ticket!
