Getting up late guilt

East London

I had a terrible night last night; tossing and turning with leg pain.

As a result I didn't get to sleep until after 1am, and woke up around 8.

It takes me an hour to get up and now it's almost 10 and I feel guilty that I've wasted the morning.

I don't have anything to get up for, so why do I feel so bad?

I think it’s some sort of assumed guilt because there’s this preconception that you’re supposed to get up early and seize the day and be productive. I often feel guilty if I’ve spent a day doing precisely sod all for that very reason. But you have the perfect excuse for getting up late, you had a bad night’s sleep. Just like I have an excuse for not doing anything, I’ve been working and parenting all week and this is my day to relax and recharge. Have a cuppa and take a minute, tell that guilt to bugger off.

two doors down

Your body decides when you need extra rest, as long as your feeling better, just enjoy it.

It's something we all feel I think. I also had a bad night last night and didn't get up for my planned swim this morning. Now I feel like crap.

We are too hard on ourselves and need to learn that it's OK to get up late/ do nothing sometimes. Enjoy the rest of the day OP x

My phone went dead in the night and as a result my kiddo was very very late for school. I do feel guilty.

Is it guilty? Or disappointment Granny?

I just feel I've missed opportunities if I'm up late. Like I'm chasing my tail for the rest of the day.

I don't feel guilt. Though. But I do feel disappointed.

Sometimes it’s good just to do something for ourselves even if it’s just a few extra hours sleep

Your body must have needed it Nanna

It's drummed in to us that we have to get up early or we're 'wasting the day'.

My mum was forever banging on about it but she'd snooze for an hour in the afternoon and be in bed by 9.

As long as you're doing what you need to it doesn't really matter if you do it at 6am or 6pm.

If you needed the rest you shouldn't feel bad but I know that's no help

Is it guilt, or frustration at the change to a routine?

I'm an early riser, 7am feels late, if after 8 I'm thoroughly confused with how to manage my day.

So not so much guilt here, more a tough readjustment to the daily rhythm.

Hereabouts

I was also up most of the night with leg pain. Awake again before 4, I can't figure out why I always wake up then. Back to sleep around 5, woke up late and kiddo was almost late for school and would have been if I had done her hair. I always feel bad when I get up late.

I get this it sucks, it takes me forever to sleep on a night and the odd time I have a lye in I feel awful for it.

Probably because I know the Mr who falls asleep in 0.2 seconds has been awake since 4am.

I don’t do guilt - I am a world champion at doing nothing if I feel like it.

East of Eden, West of Hell

I'm a lazy sh*t and at the weekends stay up late and sleep I until early afternoon (no wonder nothing ever gets done round here!)

I had Friday off, so turned off my alarms. I woke up at 09:27 this morning. I'm supposed to start work at 09:30

Luckily, my boss is pretty cool, and I clocked in at the office at 10:10 - it does mean I'll be here until at least 18:10, but comme çi, comme ça...

Chill, Nanna. As long as you've not missed anything important, you're golden. The rest of the day is still there x

Why are you not like the rest of us ancients, late to bed, waking during the night, up early in the morning!

(jealous, moi!)

Sorry that you had a bad night OP (and that I go off on tangents on threads). Relax, take it easy, and dont feel guilty - just let your body recover.

It's both a blessing and a curse to not fit the stereotype

I think the seize the day trope is part of it.

I don't seize anything nowadays

somewhere

I used to be able to just stay in bed til late morning if I wasn't working (or most of the day if Rubik was working late) but now I get up ridiculously early, try and do as much as I can and make the day count, I tend to sleep really badly so definitely don't get enough at all.

Sounds like you needed the extra rest x
