After Dr Michael Mosley going missing, whilst walking in Greece, the odds are against him, in such heat and terrain. It's desperately sad and terrifying for family and friends

So a revered TV personality goes missing and the world loses its mind with concern.

A teenager goes missing in potentially similar circumstances and it’s widely ridiculed.

I think there are two morals to this story

‘don’t get high on your boss’s supply’

and

‘however big and hard you think you are, there’s always someone bigger and harder’.

I only replied to your comment to point out that it was not Facebook news. But evidenced from court / newspapers.

I just read up on the jay slater machete after seeing people mention it above to see if it was genuine or false news.

Outside of that I have no interest in what has happened as it doesn’t concern me .

He has either:

1. Had an accident - due to heat, terrain or vehicle

2. Done something dodgy, either whilst on the island or previously, and its consequences have caught up with him

3. Been attacked by a stranger

4. Done a runner

If he didn’t have a back story then either 1 or 3 would be the highest probabilities and 2 and 4 would be very unlikely. Given he does have a back story - who knows?

Sympathy for the family but given his previous behaviour it's difficult to muster the same concern for the boy himself

I’ve read all sorts about it and I dunno what to think to be honest.

Hopefully he turns up alive and well.

But some folk are going to be left feeling a bit shit if he turns up dead.

Bit like when all that fuss over Princess of Wales was abounding and then she declared she had Cancer. And folk had to apologise.

I shall wait to see what the outcome of this is.

Stuff on social media can easily be faked. People will say and do anything for attention....Anyone speaking out or those who have been named will disappear too surely? 30k? I doubt even the Mafia would make people disappear over 30k. Not worth their time getting out of bed for.....If that were true

The lads workplace made a statement saying the rumours are false, no way would he be caught up in stuff like that. His family have said it's false. Tbf I know who I would rather believe and god forbid I hope he's found one way or another for the poor familys sake.

What I KNOW: The media have been reporting over the past week that a young man went to Tenerife and has not been seen since.

and THAT is as much as anyone KNOWS

except Jay Slater and the space aliens that probed his belly button.

I think about him each day and look for news. I hope he is found alive. I wish his family good support through these heart aching times.

Its a truly bizarre story.

Leaves rave. Goes with two men to a secluded cabin.

Phones friends at 0815am saying he's missed the bus and has 1% phone battery.

Allegedly begins 11 hour walk.

Never returns.

I hope he's found safe and well.

But given the temp and terrain he's on a less than 5% chance of survival.

Like others, I think it's really unlikely that he'll be found safe and alive. I'd love him to be found. But, as with Dr Michael Mosley, he's probably had an accident and succumbed to the harsh environment and conditions. It's remote and unsafe

The terrain is horrendous it’s a wonder his body was found at all.

He must have been out of it - setting off on a walk back that was going to take 10 hours - mountain terrain with switchback road

Have you ever been to Masca and the area around it? The ravine he was found in was completely inaccessible on foot and the remains extricated via helicopter. That's how inaccessible it is.

Some of the ravines are several hundred metres deep, the police took decades to find the bodies of the victims of those two pieces of shit on the moors near Manchester and that's pretty accessible in comparison..

Sadly, it is just perpetuating conspiracy theories. People making accusations about someone pushing him down the ravine, etc.

I'm curious why the convicted drug dealer and the unidentified man only booked the remote Airbnb for one night. Where did they stay other nights ? And why book it then drive 40 minutes for a night out ?

It is a coincidence that at the time of his disappearance the yacht Maruba passed the jetty at the bottom of the cliff he was on, did an unusual manoevre and then disappeared from radar for nine days before appearing at a different part off Tenerife.

Yes I am familiar with crows, and the fact that they fly.

You asked why the locals hadn’t spotted them swooping, and I humbly suggest that if the body was out of sight at the bottom of a ravine, then they might not have seen crows swooping.

Perhaps you should go and take a look at the terrain if you are so curious and suspicious.

Yeah I get that, I just don’t think the comparison is valid between deliberately concealed bodies and (presumably) someone who fell owing to misadventure.

a) What is the significance of this particular boat?

b) There is no jetty at the bottom of the cliff he was found at. The nearest port or otherwise is a long way from Masca and only accessible by winding mountain roads full of switchbacks and barely wide enough for one vehicle.

There is a deep gorge from Masca down to the sea, called Barranca de Masca and it's fucking huge, steep, inaccessible in the extreme, hence the difficulty of searching and the only method of extracting the body being via helicopter.

He fell down into the gorge. How and why, no-one knows, but his body was found in the same general area his phone last pinged to, showing he did not move far, before somehow meeting his end. It would be very easy to fall and die in that part of Tenerife. It's not Los Cristianos and Veronica's strip.

It's likely needing to be identification via DNA due to the length of time he's likely been dead in hot temperature, outdoors. Dental records might not be available in the day and age where many young people have never or rarely seen a dentist and are less reliable in young people anyway.

Yeah, kind of. If he really was very close to his last known location you’d think they’d have looked to see if he’d fallen. Given that it was dark and he was d*unk.

But then everyone seemed to get distracted by conspiracy theories.

We indeed may never know.

We've spent a lot of time exploring Tenerife, and we enjoy going to the non touristy places and I have driven the Masca road many times, stopping at the viewpoints that overlook the gorges and mountains to take in the view, have a picnic etc. Even as an able bodied person, I wouldn't have dreamt of walking into the gorges because they're just too dangerous.

Rumours abound about everything and always have.

*Twitching curtains*

"Ooooooooo Maud, is that Ethel over there getting it away from home? She's out at 8pm again with her stocking tops on display."

Ethel has spent another evening cleaning up after her pet dog that pees all over her good wool carpet and she's been on hands and knees, scrubbing it. She's just been out to the bins AGAIN to throw out the wet newspapers. Hence the stockings all akimbo.

But now, everyone in the Mother's Union thinks Ethel has been on her hands and knees with Mr. Somebody Who Isn't Her Husband, because Mr. Ethel works away during the week.

Etc.

There is a tiny beach at the bottom of the barranco which is serviced by ‘ferries’ that run back to Los Gigantes harbour. The ‘masca walk’ is a common tourist trip and you wouldn’t have to spend too long around any of the resorts before you were offered this as an excursion.

I’ve done the walk myself. Got the bus up to masca and walked down the gorge. It’s not remotely physically taxing for anyone who is active. Takes about 2-3 hours if you’re steady. Pick up boat is pretty regular. It’s a small patch of beach with (at the time I did it a few years ago) a wooden structure that you can jump from onto the front of a boat that noses up to it.

The walk was suspended for a few years because the canaries government decided it was unsafe and there were internet reports that at one point it had been made unsafe by a storm. I go to Tenerife every year but have not done the walk for about 4 years. I will report back after my visit next February.

If, and I mean if, there had been a plan to walk somebody down the gorge either under duress or as a method of escape and pick them up with a small boat I think this would be entirely possible and pretty easy.

That is to be regarded as a neutral statement, I know now that the body has been found everyone is jumping on the back of the so-called conspiracy theorists.

Some of the evidence from the internet sleuths has been pretty compelling. The relationship between Lucy and jay is extremely suspect with only a very recent record of them having known one another. Lucy lives a social media extravagant lifestyle with no obvious source of income. The drug convictions of the men that returned to London. The say no evil message. The Rolex. Discrepancies over the timings in the phone logs.

All in all it seems incomprehensible that the local police have not (publicly at least) taken this into consideration. I would have thought that it was the duty of the police to exclude any sort of criminal action before suggesting that nothing more than an accident has occurred

I would have thought that it was the duty of the police to exclude any sort of criminal action before suggesting that nothing more than an accident has occurred "

Perhaps the have but don't want to go public with denying all the stories that were and are doing the rounds..

I tend to think if they did go public on such stuff, some of which will just be rumours then they're setting themselves up for even more internet sleuths saying whatever..

It’s very sad. Some of the stuff I’ve seen on TikTok has been vile. I suspect there was so much horribleness towards this lad because of his past, but at the end of the day he was still someone’s son.

I hope the fact that they can now bring him home provides some comfort, rather than forever having to wonder what happened to him and where was he.

I’m sure the fact that he was so close (and yet so far) from where folk were looking will be a bitter pill to swallow.

I hope the family now get left alone to grieve in privacy.

Wasn't Nicola Bulley's body found by a "spiritual medium" rather than the Police ?

No that’s not possible as there is no such thing as a “spiritual medium”"

Okay, so the Masca Express from Los Gigantes (where we stay) is a tiny little catamaran type boat, the beach cannot be accessed by anything bigger (no yachts).

The walk down the gorge apparently takes over 2hrs in agreeable weather and 3-4hrs up, if one attempts it. That's for people fit, able and willing, with water etc. I can't imagine it's in any way easy or do-able to remove someone unwilling or unconscióus up or down it without serious issues or it being impossible. And what of this yacht? What is the alleged significance?

Why was the guy seen alive, alone, asking about buses to Las Américas or Los Cristianos and then found dead in much the same geographic area? It makes no sense that someone suddenly tried to take him (unwillingly) down a very dangerous and steep gorge, or what? Took him down to the beach spit, somehow boarded a boat far bigger than that able to stop at Masca "beach", unalive him, then drag a dead person back up a trip that takes 4hrs in good conditions, without a dead weight, and magically deposit him pretty close to where he made a phonecall that he made alone?

I know what sounds more plausible. Misadventure.

The local police HAVE questioned the people allegedly at this AirBnB and local residents and the owners of the accommodation and other people party to the trip to Tenerife. Obviously they are not going to publish the contents of private investigations but they appear sufficiently satisfied to say this was misadventure. I'm sure if there was evidence of anything nefarious, the Guardia Civil would be looking into it.

It costs thousands to repatriate a body from abroad. Hopefully those who donated did so from concern and generosity of spirit rather than a money back guarantee if not satisfied.

And perhaps the Spanish police are more discreet than the British police where we are used to having all details revealed within minutes of statements being given.? In the public interest.

My post is for information only and on the basis of a journey I have made myself.

If, and this post is in no way to make any allegations, you wanted to walk down there, and swim out to a boat a few hundred feet off the beach it’s very easy. If you wanted to ‘unalive’ someone on the beach you only need a 10 euro inflatable dinghy to get them out to same boat. So an original plan to fake a disappearance or dispose of a body at sea is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Something quite easily could have happened before that plan was executed. Accident or otherwise.

Speculation because as far as I’m aware the exact location the body was found hasn’t been released. It might not be anywhere near the path at all. If I had to guess, I’d say push was at least as likely as fall.

Exactly.

And people have carried on donating since the news of a body being found was released, so I think people are thinking of the wellbeing of the family and what they have been through and are yet to go through (bringing him home).

It passed by the Masca jetty around the time Jay went missing, did a strange manoeuvre there and then went off radar for nine days which apparently is highly unusual

According to the marine tracking tools openly available to the public, the vessel sailed from Gran Canaria (on the opposite side of Tenerife to Masca), via La Gomera (the neighbouring island and more on the Masca side) and then directly towards Los Cristianos. It did not go anywhere near Masca, Los Gigantes or anywhere towards the north end of Tenerife. The last known position was sailing away from Las Tejitas area of southern Tenerife on 28 June. That is further around the south end of the island, further away from Masca and near Reina Sofia airport. The chap went missing on 17 June and on/around those days, the Maruba was nowhere near the areas of interest.

Just another load of bunkum easily disproven.

My lord.

The amount of pretend Sherlock holmes here is astonishing.

I would like to remember you all that you are coming up with theories having less than half the information that the police will have. Your speculations are made of thin air. The best course of action is to wait for the professionals to do their job and they will share the information when it’s time.

Let’s be clear, people: if you are pub bores but start writing your tosh on a blog instead of remaining in the pub, you remain pub bores. Just, now there’s a much bigger number of people who roll their eyes and think you’re stupid.

So giving to charity now buys you a ticket to for example personal police information? That's just a ghastly thought process. Imagine all those people giving to charity being given access to patient records of cancer victims or sexual assault victims just because someone has given a few pence ro a charity. Good lord no.
