If everyone put down their phones for the day, turned off the internet do you think the world would be a happier place?

We managed before mobiles and the internet existed, we knew not only our neighbours but people in our street. Kids were playing outside. Parents joined in.

So for one day a month could you give up your phone, internet, gaming systems?

What would you do instead?

I do it fairly frequently when I head out into the wilds.

No internet or phone signal, just me and my choice of company and nature.

Love it, unplug and recharges my batteries

We managed before lots of things OP. We can manage without lots of things now. It’s all about balance.

The good old days you mention weren’t all good old days…. No matter how easy it is to think that.

Kids still play outside and people still very much enjoy other pastimes than just playing games or surfing the interweb. I love spoon whittling. Being off grid for a while is a positive thing sometimes.

It would be really interesting to see the outcome if the internet and all related technology shut down wouldn’t it. I reckon the first week would be chaos while everyone is going through withdrawals. But after that, yeah I reckon we’d all start interacting with each other again.

I interact more now I can do it without having to specifically leave my house.

When I was married I had weeks when I only spoke to my husband and children.

We did while on a cruise earlier this year, quite surprising how soon you don’t miss being on your phone.

Gone are the days where you spoke face to face about meeting at a certain time and certain place and it all worked out fine, although being honest took us near an hour to find our friends on board who didn’t know their port from starboard lol knowledge is key lol

This! Look outside of your own bubbles and see the freedom it has brought to a lot of people around the world.

Just because people got by without in the past doesn't mean it was sunshine and rainbows for everyone - nostalgia is a hell of a judgement clouding tint.

I have a love hate relationship with my phone and technology as a whole a day without would be bliss, I usually have it turned off by 7pm to enjoy family time and it's been the best decision ever- but you know football is interfering with that so here I am boredom scrolling

During Covid lockdown I helped a charity my role was to have phone or video calls with young gay or questioning adults trapped in homophobic homes, to provide support and sometimes sone advice. It would not have been possible without technology and they would have been trapped in the hell I grew up with.

So to me tech is a good thing. A very good thing. I don’t buy into the sepia nostalgia of no phones no internet. The world was a lonely and hostile place for those who didn’t have their people back then.

I remember during lockdown and we had all five kids with us, we had a no tech day, it was interesting how the day unfolded lol.

The youngest one who was 11, you would think his world had ended the moment he gave his phone in!

To be honest, I could probably go all day without my phone most days, the only thing I do on it is scroll through tiktok and come on here, I don't speak to anyone, the only thing I would miss about it, is not being able to take photos x

I'd just do more of what I do already. I don't want to put my phone down and I rely on the net for a lot. I interact with family who are scattered all over the world via the net and it enables me to speak to our kids much more frequently
