Bus drivers who work for Greater Manchester Combined Authority, specifically transporting elderly and disabled people, earn the lowest wages of any bus drivers?

Note that most buses here in GM are now centralised via our much-vaunted Bee Network, so we no longer have the various competing companies running the buses....

I don't know why.

However in general people doing jobs that involve an element of helping people or caring are paid the most lip service and the least money.

That is so twisted and something we all should rail against.

Yup.

It pisses me off that driving a "regular" bus (which include mini buses and suchlike) garners a fairly significant extra salary in the same local authority, than those doing the EXTRA it takes to enable disabled people to get on/off and use the transport.

Very, very unimpressed finding this out today!

The problem is that nobody wants to pay a lot for child care or for carers for their elderly parents. They don't want to have to sell the home they hope to inherit so that mum or dad can be comfortably accommodated.

It's so very wrong! We value the wrong things in society - a deranged sociopath, getting to the top, having no consideration for who they hurt along the way, is admired, whilst someone who helps to support people, has other's best interests at heart, is treated like a workhorse sl@ve

This is the council’s fault, they contract out services like that to the lowest bidders, or even privatise it themselves so they don’t have to offer local government pensions and other benefits. Guess they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place if they simply don’t have the money though

Greater Manchester Combined Authority, aka Mr. Burnham's department across the city region, are responsible for the wages of the drivers of the Ring & Ride buses. The same GMCA are now responsible for the wages of the drivers of the Bee network buses across the city region. Why the discrepancy?

I guess because they can when they separate it out into a separate business. It’s a way to save money. When the numbers are high makes it very hard for them to get percent rises across the board, it’s a bit like nurses they’re just too many of them.
