Lots of lovely posts about us dads. Being a dad is so rewarding and every day I spend with my boy is a blessing.

But how about a massive FUCK YOU to all those "Dad's" that never stepped up, were nasty cunts, put their own needs ahead of their kids, put extra pressure on all those mums.

Not even sure mine is still alive or not as I cut all contact with him in my teens but FUCK YOU. Life has been so much better without you in it

On a day for celebrating those who did, I'd rather not give energy to those who didn't

What's the point? It's like drinking poison yourself and expecting these dad's to die. Go get sone fresh air and reset your thought process

Very true, it's the only day I ever hold any resentment.

Seems a bit of a waste of energy. Not only to focus on a negative but to focus negatively on a day where as you say, you've not acted as yours did (applies to women taking up that role).

On such days I can emphasize with anyone for whom the 'day' might trigger bad memories, and whilst it's easier to say having not been there a strategy going forward might be to not let that persons negative behaviours continue to affect you..

Move on and be you not tainted by them..

I can understand why it would play on your head today of all days, maybe you shouldn't try and understand it, but understand how you experienced it, and how it's impacted your life, you may find that it starts to ease a little bit...

We are us because of important figures in our lives and their behaviours and influence shape us (nurture over nature)

It’s impossible to be “us” without being influenced or tainted by other people and our experiences with them.

I hear you OP - my kid struggled with Father's day at school, the run up to the 'making cards' and shit - so we changed it to happy Godfather's day, and she made things for him.

Another single parent friend used it as a favourite male role model day.

They aint always there but its their loss, find one who was if you can xxx

I get where you're coming from and this day isn't always a celebration, it can be a triggering day and a day of loss/mourning for what you missed out on in terms of a wonderful nurturing Father.

If it's any consolation, there are many out there who feel the same so take heart that you are not alone in this difficult day and you have had the chance to not repeat the pattern with your own child xx

I agree with the former but we have choices as to whether we allow or continue with negative or plain wrong aspects that we didn't like..

Yeah don't think some people understand the consequences of their words/actions towards their kids that can impact them well into adulthood.

Sorry for such a negative thread folks... Sometimes things just spill over that probably shouldnt

Mine has passed but we had a poor relationship for many reasons

My daughters is an idiot who has alienated her but blames me for doing so, they barely speak now despite her giving him several “second chances” he blows it every time! Infuriates and saddens me on her behalf. She’s an adult and handles it as well as possible but I know it hurts her.

Not every dad/father is worthy of the title.

So yea, I hear ya op, and I send my heartfelt support as yes I’m finding today hard too.
