I should also say... I have a small fridge, because whichever twit installed the kitchen left a ridiculously narrow gap for the fridge. So much so, you can't even buy them that width anymore. So if this one goes bang (it's currently 14 years old) I'll be stuffed!

Yes it dates back to when houses with a pantry or larder which would be cooler than the rest of the house, it should be in the fridge along with pickled onions once open, pesto, jam and other former pantry goods

Good lord, if you put all of that tut in the fridge, there'd never be room for the food that ACTUALLY needed to be refrigerated... they poke that crap on the labels so you can sue them for being slightly poorly (thank you America.... )

Somewhere

Ketchup, pickled onions, and jam all live in the cupboard. I've yet to wind up in hospital, or shit my pants from not keeping them in the fridge. But you get people who store chocolate and bread in their fridge too... Because they're weird

Somewhere

The team at Heinz say, "Because of its natural acidity, Heinz Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening."

So there you go - answer from Heinz it's recommended but not necessary
