Mood Killing Topics

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Do you ever find yourself in small talk, whether in a club, social or Fab, coming across topics that instantly kill the idea of prospective fun with the person/people?

Is it the mum talking about her toddlers’ toilet training escapades? The older man telling you about his dental prosthesis? The lady gleefully sharing details of her latest gang bang? The person who endlessly mining about the status of the government?

What topics are instant mood saboteurs for you?

Not sure about killing the idea.

If it’s a conversation that flows well, I find, a mixed variety of topics let’s you get to know said person better.

As a couple we are king and queen of being awkward as fuck to talk to people and probably put many, many people off wanting to have sex with us, can't think of any specific right now but husband doesn't really get social cues (getting better) and I look like I can't talk as conversation doesn't really come naturally to me, while husband loves to talk about anything and everything and when someone cuts him off and starts talking about something else, he actually can't move on with talking about anything else until he has finished what he is saying..so much so when we walk away I say to him "finish what you wanted to say" just so he can let it out and he can move on (same applies for songs requested at a party, if he doesn't hear it, I play it for him in the car on the way home so he can feel better, it's a huge struggle for us).

Oh yes! That's a good one Rosie. If I'm dating dating someone, of course I'd like to know who else they are seeing. It's kind of... well part of the ENM poly thing.

But if the conversation only revolves around the fora? It's so fricking dull. Talk to me about trains, foraging, some interesting article you read, a fantastic exhibition you went to.... don't make the fora more than it needs to be.

We have found if we are meeting a couple in a possible play situation and they start chatting about their life history (which is fine) but then it starts to get dark like taking about health issues or divorvces etc then it’s a red flag to us because it tells us they aren’t in the mood and it’s likely to go south or they are attaching past negative situations to ours!!!

Worse is when they start talking about swinging incidents where one had a bad experience and the other was fine or didn’t realise. Airing dirty washing isn’t very sexy. Okish if it’s in a social situation but you know they won’t be calling you back! Lol

This is somewhat my thought earlier this morning. If someone started talking about their life story, sadness, struggles, experiences that were negative I’d struggle to find them in the right mind frame and right mood. If that was me, sharing such things I’d definitely not be in the right mood.

I suppose it would be this way if they were someone new as opposed to someone I had previously made a connection with, and was simply sharing because we had a foundation of vulnerability which made sharing such things make more sense. But would it still make me drier than the Sahara? If someone new to me was sharing something that personal with me, as a stranger, I’d feel they were struggling emotionally and they would dampen the mood. Not because of their struggle per se, but because they’re hurting.

If I dated someone I met on the forums and they chatted about the forums often or even Fab people I’d be turned off too.

If someone sent me a message saying they didn’t like someone but would talk to me more about this in person. Instantly, I would be put off meeting them.

Oh yes, sport is a good one. It depends what about sport they chat about for me.

I once dated a man who was a professional sportsperson. I swear they had twelve stories about their career and all twelve were shared million times. When I started laughing at them for the second time I knew they were boring me. The sex started boring me too come to think of it, as a result of their nonstop sport chat.

Gossiping about others on here is a big turn off as well as looking for information on others.

Away from fab any subject where they are adamant they are right about and others opinions etc don't matter especially when they think keeping going on about something to try and force me change my mind about it. It's fine to have differing opinions but not fine to try and make out that yours is the only one that matters or is right.

I don't think there is a topic actually. It's good question.

It's more how natural the conversation feels. I do like when people talk about things they are passionate about, I like to understand what they get from it. What makes people tick is interesting to me. I really need to be in person to get that from them though. The way their eyes light up, their facial expressions, body language. When that's reciprocated and I feel seen too the conversation can flow into comfortable silence; delicious lustful tension or affectionate gaze. When all three exist it's something quite special.

It doesn't need saying and yet there's no reason not to either.
