couple, us we him her.

Back in the olden days before electricity and the invention of the wheel user older folks had little to keep us busy, but nothing gave us more pleasure than popping to the local shoppe on a Saturday after our shift working in the mine or mill and with our half a shilling and purchasing a quarter of our favourite sweets.

Mine would be either chocolate raisins or pineapple cubes.

Failing that a lucky bag with an assortment of bit.

BRIDPORT

Maynards Wine Gums, dispensed by a little old lady who used to go up a short set of steps to get the big ole jar down, and then weigh them out and put the quarter ( or if I was flush, half) into a paper bag. Out the back room through a sliding door her husband ran a gentleman’s barbers. I think he learnt his trade in the military because it didn’t matter what haircut you asked for they were all short back and sides

"Jelly beans"

Ah, a person after my own heart

When I was younger, I'm pretty sure most people used to buy ‘choc malt’ (or ‘choc lick’ as I think some call it) from the local sweet shop on the way to secondary school.

Apart from jelly beans, I always enjoyed getting Fireball Jawbreakers, mainly because my mum was paranoid about me having sweets you could gag on and I was trying to be a bit of a rebel

Oh yes! I remember Fireball Jawbreakers, as I mentioned earlier in this thread. It was like a challenge having them as a kid because of how hot and fiery they were, but I've bought some in recent years and they were nowhere near as spicy. Either they've dialled down the recipe or I've become more tolerant of them in my older age, but I'm not sure which

Awww, I miss Jimmy's, the proper newsagent/sweet shop in my old town.

My favourites were:

Haribo Jelly Teddy Bears (Gold Bears)

Haribo Mini Jelly Babies

Sherbet pips

Fruit pips

Fruit Salad gums

Midget Gems

American Hard Gums

Lemon Sherbet powder

Or the penny sweets.

A little later, I liked Aniseed Twists, Chewing Nuts, Sherbet Lemons.

Oh sweets!!
