If you could say it in public/at work then it’s appropriate.

Sending an explicit message and thinking it’s ok as it’s a compliment is not ok

If I see a nice profile and picture, then yes I'll send a complement, why not!

Why do some people have to think it's cringe? Be nice and complement someone, not only makes their day but yours too if you get one back.

It's a shame we are becoming a society that is suspicious when someone says something nice to someone, I was brought up to be nice . And was told , if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all!

I agree to that statement, if that person continues to give you compliments, and you haven't replied/acknowledged the first one.

But if it's a first introduction message, then why is that person a dick? Just because you may not find that person attractive, why are they a dick?

Carlisle usually

Depends on the compliment.

Intent and interpretation aren't the same thing.

Also, context.

Someone out in public compliments my dress sense or makeup or something I have chosen, cool. Someone who's probably only looking for a viable fuckhole tells me I've got cracking tits, not cool

"Especially if a lady looks fetching & attractive?Or is it making a nuisance of one’s self?"

The question is complex as is the answer. Context and relationships are paramount e.g. Your mum buys a dress - be complimentary.

A long term friend has her hair done - be complimentary.

Approaching a stranger - it's never appropriate.

Your use of language ( and I know it's a limited clue ) suggests to me that you view women as something decorative for your delight rather than people.

The dress and the hairdo are good examples you can compliment what someone has done without focusing on what they are.

Generally with children, and same applies to a lot of the people on here too , it’s always best to give compliments about their actions and decisions rather than their physical appearance, unless you want to grow them into insecure adults.

But I disagree it’s always inappropriate to compliment a stranger I reserve the right to flirt with a stranger and if see someone ,if I get a nice smile in the elevator, I’ll sometimes use a compliment as a way in to conversation, like if she has done something very creative with her nails, I’ll say I really like it.

On here, men give compliments as a "way in". They don't mean anything.

And I'd rather people just said nothing at all in public.

It’s sad that they’re met with such cynicism now, but I guess that’s the way of the modern world. I’ll still continue to give compliments.

I think your rainbow cock is glorious John and I most certainly don't want to get anything wet around it.

Yet it remains truly magnificent.

I think it's down to creepiness isn't it? Men still abuse women (or trans, gay)...and a smaller amount of men are abused too (by anyone)...so I think "creep antennae" are in play.

There are always well-intentioned compliments and then there is faux flattery. The delineation between the two is often opaque on Fab.

A young lady shared her photograph with me the other day. She was a divinity, resplendent and I would marry her tomorrow. I told her she looked above average with a flaw or two. We're still talking (for now) but I think the outcome would have been different if I had showered her with plaudits.

You can only control the intention behind your actions not the way they're received.

If you feel bitter because you expect that women should react differently to you being nice to them you might need to adjust your expectations.

How do men react when you compliment them?

Gents! *Most* women accept genuine compliments from relative strangers gracefully, with a smile or a 'thank you'. We don't have to be grateful that you've appreciated us or interact with you any further. This doesn't mean you've offended us or compliments aren't appreciated.

However unless you've spent a lifetime being approached by men who turn into sulky, entitled babies or worse aggressive morons because you don't respond how they want you to you won't under why many of us are wary.

Continue to compliment *people* but accept that it's up to them how they receive it.

Previously, I've sent compliments, just because I think it's nice to make people feel good. And, what better way than to send a genuine compliment.

However, due to the creepy nature of some men on here. I fully understand why even the most genuine compliments are viewed with scepticism.

Now-a-days, I tend to leave the compliments unless someone messages me. As I don't message first, I find the messages I do recieve, add more value to my FAB experience.

I can yes and I totally understand that. I will however compliment people I know and people who I talk to for the reasons stated previously. I'm old and wise enough to know throwing compliments to anyone in the hope

of attention would be futile and it would also go against everything I believe in.

Unfortunately I can't change how it would be seen

We are all different here as we are in real life. Sometimes a compliment is just that and nothing more.
