What’s your thoughts on the PM leaving the D-Day commemorations early?

Is it things like that which may sway you?

Or no affected by it all?

He only ever gives a toss about his billions and cooking up more ways to rinse the public. Expect the man to show respect to anything is a tall order

His lack of common decency and awareness is staggering but not surprising.

To be honest, that's the least of things that would sway me. There's plenty more to choose from.

I’m not politically minded, or pay any attention to the news for the most part.

But…..this one stood out for me amongst the sea of headlines and I find his actions highly distasteful and disrespectful. There’s no excuse, what makes it worse, is that his flunkies allowed it to happen as well. Not one thought to say “you know what….thats a bad idea”

It would’ve been an honour to attend and even more so to meet those veterans who are still with us.

I’d have paid to be there for the full event but it appears the PM, who’s actually there to represent us, doesn’t have the same desire. It was more important to go back home and do an interview with ITV it appears.

"What would Boris have done?"

As much as I hate the man you know he is a populist politician so he would have made sure he was front and centre the entire time (and probably trying to get quotes and ring some poor veteran into helping him sorted his long overdue Churchill book). He certainly would have been more aware of the optics of the situation.

Bribed how? Would you need a personalised offer, 1-1, cash in your hand, or for you is it possible Rishi could suggest a policy that would financially benefit you enough to vote for him?

He attended.

How long WAS he there for ? Does anyone know ?

I didn't even know it was D Day until it bored the bloody fuck out of me on the news and THEN came the Rishi story.

ffs..... It's ploy to stir up more hatred against the Tories.

and NO I am not a Rishi fan and I don't vote tory.

I'd bet a lot that no one here went to D day celebrations or did much else about it and don't do much to help verterans on other days either ...

For many it's a case of , if I slag him off too with my faux outrage , I'll appear as if I stand for something.

I sat in my home "office" with the commemorations on the TV, until I had to turn off and actually join a meeting. It had finished by the time I was able to have noise in the background again.

I sat and cried, Granny. The contributions of Allied veterans didn't save my family from all being slaughtered, but the records the Allies collected about what happened in the concentration camps allowed some sort of justice to be served after. I know that one Dutch collaborator who "arrested" some of my family was executed after the war.

Elgar's Nimrod has other meaning to me too and it was audible every time I put the commemorations on and that made my emotional state even worse.

So, if nothing else, I thought about what our armed services did on D-Day and all the other days of the war and it had profound meaning for me. Very profound. My work and the nature of it being our main assessment period meant I could not physically attend a service or event yesterday, unfortunately.

I don't need to have attended the small local gathering which I didn't but spent a moment there later by myself nor to have been to the cemeteries in Normandy and Ypres and nor to have served to have an opinion on this..

It's an irrelevant observation your making in relation to the issue and that's fine that's your opinion but your wrong in my opinion ..

My opinion is that whilst he did his duty as PM in representing the country in the morning he also had a duty to afford the same respect to the veterans of the other countries later at the international ceremony..

He chose not to, and yes he's apologised but if he can't carry out the duties of the office regardless of whether he wants to do an interview about his party in an election then he's rightly going to be criticised..
