Compared to other EDM Techni positively break the norms with sone estimates placing female DJs near 45%. Where as industry wide is best 13% with only 2% becoming producers and less than 1% entering the charts. (According to DJ mag)

Techbo is embarrasment of headline riches at the moment. High Prestess Sara Landry, Cahrlotte De Witte,Koreleva, Nu Jaber, Grimes, Stella Bossi etc. have all either chatted or headlined/sold out stadiums and festivals.

So why is techno bucking the trend and why are other genres not capable of replicating the sucess of techbo in getting more women producers and DJs?

What is noticeable if you want to be steriotypical is the hunger c of when VC in the harder genres of techno. Traditionally done may c petite natty c have seen peros may have seen this as the more masculin sub gebres of techno.

To answer the first comment above. I don't know. Thatc is why I asked.

The Town by The Cross

I have thought about this many many times

I think other genres were around when sexism was more pronounced in society and techno came later and is less entrenched in patriarchy and outmoded views on women

Why not? Free country, and all that. Plus, as an ex-DJ myself, it makes me happy to see female DJs doing their bit, and doing it really well.

Not just on the techno scene, but also on the Northern Soul scene in the UK, and also on the Ska/Rocksteady/Reggae scenes, particularly in the USA and Europe.

About 3 feet away from the fence

The barrier for entry to become a techno producer or DJ is much lower, because it's much simpler music. It's easy to mix & easy to produce.

There are genres of electronic music that are far newer than techno, but the majority of behind-scenes technical work is still overwhelmingly dominated by men.

The difference is the music itself, not culture.

Anywhere where something is easier to do, you see increased participation irrespective of gender. I imagine there's far more techno producers & DJs in general, male & female, as opposed to other EDM genres.

I read on beatport a women explaining why there was so few female Trance DJs. Even though Trance bills itself as the music of diversity, freedom and euphoria it has very few DJs as opposed to vocalists. But I think surly with good self teaching and or a university musical education one should overcome surly?

"Why does it matter?? "

Because women in music in general, are underrepresented.

Understanding why might help improve diversity in other genres.

That's once of the rules in many of the Berlin techno clubs. No mobile phones.

I prefer Deep House music not that Ibiza myself, that sublime French or American deep house. It has more class and oozes of soulful jazz and melodic bass lines... funky vocals

Great for getting down to and easier to dance to...

Great for fucking too

I was wondering this exact thing recently why high profile bars around the Middle East and gulf - Buddha Bar, Farsha Mountain Cafe and some Arabic clubs all seem to showcasing female techno like a new trend . Then I was in Manilla recently and it’s the same. I like it they are so understated compared to guys

"Equality rules."

Why not who ever makes good music makes food music regardless of gender. When it comes to the grassroots should there not be toparity especially when the ravers are more of less even in gender.

Its because they've found a way of making a load of money, even though it takes no talent what so ever.
