Spare a moment in your day tomorrow for those who put everything on the line so we could live today.

Nothing could prepare the bravest of men to land on beaches against the heaviest of bombardment to Repel and force Germany into retreat.

Soldiers from all over the world who had never fought in such a way, were unprepared for what was waiting for them in France.

The human spirit of togetherness, as one paying the ultimate sacrifice.

So tomorrow take a moment to remember.

They did it for us

Second star to the right…

A Veteran of that war was asked by his Grandson, “ were you a hero Grandpa?

His reply was “no but I served in a company of heroes”

Another Veteran said, “ the heroes died on the beach that day”

I always spare a thought for those who lay down and risked their lives on Anniversaries like this.

My grandfather had most of his right hand blown off three days after D day. Barely out of his teens. He never talked about it.

Sagittarius A

My grandfather, I have no memories of him getting angry with me. Except once when I asked him what he did in the war. His reaction was so out of character.

The next time I saw him, he took me out in the back garden. Showed me the flowers he'd grown. His tomatoes in his greenhouse and his Rhubarb. How he held the snapdragons like finger puppets, that memory still makes me giggle.

He never once spoke about the war and I never asked him again. It took me a long time to realise that was his way of showing me what war had taught him. I have his tool box, he made from an ammo-crate and his woodworking tools. Create don't destroy. I guess he learnt the hard way and hoped I never had to.
