Condoms only but unprotected oral?

One of the biggest mysteries to me is people that have condoms as a must but also do unprotected oral. And it appears the majority do this, Im not trying to start any arguments whatsoever, just trying to understand the mindset. From a health/risk perspective to me it may aswell be all or nothing, and even then things like herpes can be passed on regardless. If a couple kept bareback between them for intimacy that I can understand. Would love to hear your reasons!

Carlisle usually

I moderate my risk profile in a way that I consider acceptable, that is communicated clearly to my partners.

The only way to completely avoid the risk is not to fuck at all.

Allowing a nominal amount of risk doesn't mean it should just become a free for all

Fair enough! Im strict on testing and stuff myself and also agree there will be some amount of risk no matter what, we just approach it differently

I take a similar view to driving. It inherently carries a level of risk so I normally just disconnect the airbags, get blind d*unk and make sure to watch a really engrossing YouTube video while I drive.

You can't make a baby through oral sex. Making a baby is quite a serious thing.

I’ve been doing oral for decades, regularly test and never had an STI.

There are all kinds of risks with oral, kissing, fingering and even touching and using other peoples or hotel bedding & towels carries risks.

Always a good laugh reading these type of forums.

Personally I believe everyone fully understands the risks associated with any type of sex, protected or not. Associating the risks of other activities like driving with another risk like sex or walking across a road or swimming in rivers in Africa seems non sensible.

Sex is a very personal choice whether that is with multiple partners, single partners and how the have sex. Have chatted with many saying they only do oral while using condoms and others who only do full bareback. Also some saying there is no kissing only sex.

As for associated risks, I think it's more to do with a persons choice in sexual activities that turn them on rather than their perception of risks. But let me be clear lol that's my thoughts only.

Talking with many over the years, there are many who have caught some very bad infections and many not so bad infections from both protected and unprotected sex. The Ex and I both always had unprotected sex with many others starting from while still living in Africa where the risks of getting all STI's are very high. The worst either of us got was Chlamydia. But that comes down to chance and luck nothing more.

If you are going to have sex with others then the best you can do is make sure you get tested regularly and get all the vaccinations that are available. The most important thing is that you are comfortable and enjoy what you do. Still wont stop the risks of getting some form of STI but certainly helps.

Exposure is one of the factors of risk. The risk of unprotected sex increases with the more:

- places (anal, vagina, mouth)

- partners overall

- frequency with same partner

- partners in the same okay session

Reducing the places where unprotected sex is used reduces the risk. Many usually take the risk when it comes to oral but prefer to reduce it by not exposing themselves with anal and vaginal.

But health and risk are never 'all or nothing' are they?

Hence speed limits, sunscreen, water temperature in baths, expecting pilots and truck drivers to sleep once in a while, drink driving legislation, PPE and limiting the number of Carolina reapers you put in your chilli.

Risk minimisation is always a good plan. Elimination would be great but isn't always possible.

Hence all the posts saying 'it's OK, I'm on prep' are pretty pointless.

Do you kiss without protection?

Everything has a risk - staying in bed is risky!

I’ve got through my life up to now without using a condom/dam for oral but using one when having sex, with people who aren’t my partner.

I’ll keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully my luck will continue…

Everything is a risk. But we can choose to protect ourselves, and any partners and future lovers in anyway we wish.

I personally always protected Myself due to a friend in the late 70s having caught an STD and then becoming sterile.

I learnt to be very cautious at an early age...
