Curious if you're happy to venture into a pub or bar alone? Or is it outside your comfort zone?

It's outside of my comfort zone. I can feel somewhat self-conscious and awkward standing at the bar on my own. I'm not very good with the BNM Syndrome.

I have only done if I knew or say someone had said they used public house on evening they had said go in there. So would go in hope of meeting up. I have never gone into a public house if did not know anyone. Yet for roughly twenty plus years worked away from home in UK and Europe. If away would use the hotel bar etc. Yes go out to somewhere if invited.

It doesn't cause me any apprehension, but I don't do it very often.

It's been a while since I've found a pub that has that kind of atmosphere here, pubs sort of changed after the smoking ban and many closed down or became family restaurants.

I found an awesome bar in Reno but it's a bit of a trek.

An Irish fried told me Galway still has great pubs, maybe I'll move there one day.

A pub is comfy & laid back. A bar is more formal/evening type of vibe...?

I'd not go to a bar solo, either. But mainly 'cos I don't drink

I'd say a pub offers food? A bar generally just serves drinks and snacks?

I fell into the habit of popping into the Spoons opposite the bus station on my commute home quite frequently for months (shitty weather conditions, and they have toilets! ). Started off feeling a little blah, as I was literally going in to kill waiting time, and paying 60p for an orange and soda water But got to the point the bar staff recognised me, knew my daft little order, and would gravitate towards me with a smile on their face (because I'm sober/not a PITA), and have a bit chit chat as others were getting rowdy I was also firmly working my way through their back stock of scampi fries, that apparently nobody else bought

Yes it does not bother me going to a pub/bar by myself.

It’s good to people watch…

Although I did feel conscious when I went to Croatia and went out for dinner in an open aired bar. I guess with everyone around me not speaking English and there were several large groups, all having a laugh, it felt quite a lonely experience.

I'm not a massive pub person (only teetotallers drink less than me), but I've always been very comfortable going to a pub, nightclub (hell...it's a disco damn it! And I love my discos!) on my own, dancing like a nutter with water mostly, making friends, holidays, coffee shops, swinger clubs/parties etc on my own.

I prefer it. Simpler time management.

I think it's easier if you're a 6ft1 male than a 5ft something female - the idiots don't fancy their chances against height and strength, whereas women are easier targets for idiots, so group/attending with another provides more safety.

But yes - I love things on my own, including rare visits to pubs.

Happy to go and enjoy a couple of quiet pints alone (happy in my own company). I also just like taking in the atmosphere and people watching.

However the whole solo social thing is not in my comfort zone. I have to be in the mood with my social battery charged and make what for me is a big effort. However over the years it's a skill I've developed (I don't think its a skill to most people, just natural). So a difficult as it is sometimes in the right mood and atmosphere I do strike up conversations with strangers and make new freinds. I think for me the biggest milestone in this solo social pursuit is when I started going to swinger clubs solo. If I can do that I can do anything. However it's not easy for me and I have to be in the mood.

It all depends though, no? I mean going to a bar on your tod to get shitfaced, is very different to having a pint, or a soft drink. If I'm hanging about for over 40mins on my commute home I'd rather sit in a bar/pub and have a drink/access to their loos vs sitting on the train platform.

Generally ill only head to the pub on my own if I'm meeting someone there. There are no 'local' type pubs anywhere near, and I couldn't think of anything worse than getting to the pub and finding I can't get a seat anywhere while surrounded by loud music and people trying to talk over it. If it were a nice peaceful environment to relax in, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Similar to others; when abroad for work I’ll venture out for an apéro alone to relax. Also never hit on, It’s the price to pay for a bitchy resting face I guess!

No music, one armed bandits or duke boxes in my local. Just an excellent selection of beers and friendly customers v

They're out of fashion, the youngsters drink less and like me prefer other locations for socialising. I prefer a nice couch in a coffee shop.
