Always been a huge fan of glam/hair metal so for me it’s bands like Poison, Europe, Kiss, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot etc.

Never ever been into thrash at all, but I randomly saw Slayer live at Sonisphere and they were breathtaking x

The best ever death metal band out of Denton,

Were a couple of guys who'd been friends since grade school.

One was named Cyrus, and the other was Jeff,

And they practiced twice a week in Jeff’s bedroom.

.

The best ever death metal band out of Denton,

Never settled on a name.

But the top three contenders, after weeks of debate,

Were Satan’s Fingers, and The Killers, and The Hospital Bombers.

.

.

.

(I know it’s not answering the question, but I saw the thread and got earwormed with this song.)

Difficult to pick one, but in time frames..

60s led zeppelin

70s black sabbath / thin lizzy

80s guns & roses/ iron maiden

90s panetera/ megadeth / carcass / metallica /testament/ sepultura/ slayer

2000s system of a down

2010+ animals as leaders/ 12 foot ninja

My favourite metal album is probably "act 3" by death angel. Still blows me away.

I'd have to go for Maiden as I've seen them 26 times.

But... there's also Metallica (anything up to ...And Justice For All.)

I'd have to rate Megadeth higher than Metallica.

Ozzy, Motorhead, Twisted Sister, Halloween.

I once played on the same bill as Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror in a tiny club in Cardiff...way back in 1988 !

Slayer, AC/DC, Anthrax, Guns 'n Roses (on the albums - Axl has never been a great live singer.

Plenty more on the list.

The answer is Metallica, Guns or Maiden. But what is “Metal”?

Over the decades it’s a genre that mutated into a gazillion sub genres that don’t resemble traditional Heavy Metal at all

Rammstein? Industrial

KoRn? - Nu Metal

Slipknot? - without the bells’n whistles? Grindcore

Metal is the rule 34 of music genres. If it exists there's metal of it.

Goblins - Nekrogoblikon

Pirates - Alestorm

Ned Flanders from The Simpsons - Okilly Dokilly
