No, you do not. Once you give a gift, it's not yours to be troubled by.

No. A gift was GIVEN not loaned. The gift was GIVEN on the occasion of a marriage which took place. When something is GIVEN it is no longer the property of the giver.

Tough titties..... Was it a yacht ?

From Solicitor

Personal gifts such as jewellery tend to stay within the ownership of the spouse or civil partner they were gifted to. Joint wedding gifts, such as a valuable artwork or an antique, are treated as matrimonial assets regardless of whose family or friends gifted them.

( and the courts will distribute them as they see fit - but the gift is not given back as it wasn't give to guarantee a long and happy marriage ) that bit was me

The bloke still needs to eat? Help a brother out and all that when it sounds like he had the dirty played on him.

"What is a gold set??? "

Based on spelling I assumed it was 'golf', but it could have been something from the Brinx Mat heist.

Think of it as a lesson in the importance of due diligence before marriage.

No. It's an unconditional gift, for the relationship you've had, reflecting your best wishes for the couple. You can give further gifts after the wedding, it doesn't have to be a one time thing, as it's a wedding, you give without any ties or part-ownership

Perhaps slightly off topic ? Many years ago when my first marriage ended. There was agreement that then wife moved out what she would take. I was not at house when she moved out. When I arrived at house after she had left. Apart from large items like beds, sofas, washing machine , fridge and freezer, curtains and carpets. I had no cutlery , pots, pans, towels etc.

Saw solicitor the next week. Informed him what had been taken . He said it was better for me not to try and get back items. As divorce would take even longer . So I took the hit.

This is why I rarely give wedding gifts, I’m sure some only get married to be deluged in gifts, it’s just a scam.

We have a friend who split as they were in the airport on the way to their honeymoon.

In this instance then yes maybe, otherwise, don't be a tight arse.

Oh and he went on the honeymoon alone!
