Why are the 90s (music and fashion) and certain Y2K astehetics back in fashion again?

Because it's far enough away for it all to seem new and different. During my life I've seen the same fashions in clothes and music come round again and again. I think I'm on my third go with flares

Because everything is cyclical, my friend.

There are only so many things you can do with various items (clothing, music, haircuts), so it all just goes back into the melting pot and is revamped.

Everything cycles. Kids these days are too young to remember the 90s, they weren't even alive, therefore it's retro and different and they want to try it.

More power to them, it was shit then and it's shit now

That always happens. That's why having cosmetic surgery for a particular trend is so dumb -sneeze and the opposite will be back in fashion.

I'm a shade over 5ft if platform shoes came back I'd run to the shops...well walk quite fast.

There are versions available but nothing like the glorious platforms we used to nearly break our ankles with in the 70s

Even the less drastic stuff - plucking eyebrows can be permanent, and tattooing them is at least long term. Shaving/ concealer/ brow product is temporary.

I've noticed this with the fashion choices. When did baggy clothes become a thing again?

In the seventies we used to pluck our eyebrows to a very slim line, a friend used to leave single hairs. There's a whole generation of women with scraggy eyebrows due to this.

I remember it being a thing in my childhood. I'm ever so slightly too young to have faced the peer pressure to pluck to sperm brows.

My brows seem a bit sparser than they used to be, I suspect it's an age thing - but because I've never plucked, I have more options. (I have a slightly less full patch in the middle of both of my brows, I tend to fill that in with pencil, a few years ago I would have done a bit more, and because the trend has changed, now I do a bit less)

I remember watching the sooner final a few years ago a Ronny O'Sullivan's daughter was wearing a black tight fitting junp suite with conbats because apparently she was a skater. I was thinking bloodyhell that was a throwback.

Leading into and years after lockdowns I noticed people adopting rave fasion and maybe on the gym bro sporting a mullet and croped shirt.

The part two years I noticed that things sounded too have progressed on by 5 years. Combats, dark shirts, though plastic moderations sunglases etc.

In the 90s platform shoes made a comeback, so I'm guessing it's so the youth of today can look retro?

What gets be though is how all consuming be the trend seems to be. I understand that the 70s for instance had an impact on house music in the early 90s and then later architecture of the early 00s but it was never everything. We see and know 200s stuff. But to be out send like geb Z have gone head long into 90s, almost everything has a link back to it in the current culture.

Even as a teen in the 90s eyebrows were practically non existent!! It definitely ruined mine plucking them.

That's what I'm thinking. Im like looking at modern techno videos which the trend is to fill out of b&w with grain in 240 - 360p. And I'm thinking how many perks are dressing like this away from the rave?

From anecdotal note. I was in a primarc where I over listened a girl say "oh my I can imagine you wearing these in the day dad. So embarrassing so 90s".

To come around again. Don't know who came up with that.

It's just the way it is when all the people who grew up in the 1990s hit middle age & become nostalgic for the things of their youth. Happens with every generation.

The 90s nostalgia been happening since about 2018. Just wait until the 2030s when the people approaching their 40s then will be getting nostalgic for Minecraft & Hannah Montana, now that will be weird

"Britpop" very much did go out of fashion. Really quickly as well from what I remember..

It was all over for that scene by about 1998

Nu-metal did. Although that was more 2000s. Acid house popularity from 88 - 94/95. replaced by a lesser extent by breakbeatz (drum and bass etc) and to a greater extent Trance. Which was dominant throughout the 90s and 00s. With it becoming unpopular and cheesy by 2010 and the being revived in 2023. (Im not complaining nearly 20 years for a music genre is amazing). Euro dabce was also also popular and let's not forget indy rock with many artists fall deeply in the britnpop stylev and scene.

I have been watching a few documentaries recently. How todays fasions was inspired by soviet wave, CXEMA, Gopnics (which is the Russian version of a chav is as the kids call it a roadman) and the now allegedly disgraced fasion desighner Gosha Rubchinskiy.

Some of those football kits in the past were total howlwers. Like David Seamens England Goalkeeper kits and the chelsea's Static and orange kit.
