I just heard on the radio that 1 in 4 people can't ride a bike. If this is true I reckon it's a generational thing as when I were a youngling most of us rode bikes but now you hardly see it.

In our days if you wanted to talk to a friend you had to go and see them so you got on your bicycle. Now everyone is on their phones so don't need to go out.

Bikes are expensive. With public transport and online communication they're less of a necessity and more of a luxury item. If your stats are UK specific they are likely contributing factors. What were the numbers previously?

Worldwide I wouldn't be surprised by that figure.

I used to work in a bike shop and Christmas time every year was manic. Often a kids big Christmas present was a bike.

A friend of mine owns a bike shop. He says it actually goes a little quiet over the Christmas period now. Kids all want Play Stations and phones. Sad times.

Cambridge is the worse, no Lycra but bikes outnumber cars, mums with newborns in baskets on the front is quite common.

I can't ride a bike.

Actually I can ride a bike as long as I don't need to go any further than 3 metres. I've got terrible balance so that's when I normally fall off, but those 3 metres are ridden with verve and panache.
