Ladies advice: hair colour!

I mean anyone can answer this. I'm approaching 45 very soon, I've always been known for my brightly coloured hair, all different colours, you never know what colour I might be from one month to the next however I think I'm reaching a stage of my life where I'm thinking maybe just be natural (god even that felt weird to say).

Thing is, I've probably got a ton of greys I didn't know about and I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet.

Anyone else been through the same feelings? Is there an age you should stop with purple hair and just embrace it?

I think this quite often and I'm only 37. I just don't want to look like mutton!

I couldn't stop dyeing because of lots of grey, but I could dye to my natural colour and blend into the crowd. I'm not quite there yet and don't have an answer for you.

I guess when you feel more conspicuous than awesome with bright hair, then it's time to stop.

I embraced the the greying/silvering during lockdown. I'd always coloured/enhanced my natural red, but it was just getting ridiculous to keep up with the regrowth. And I can't afford the hairdresser anymore, so I've gone with it and quite like the variation in my hair. It's like having highlights!

Could you just have a streak of colour? Or get a wig for the days you feel like something different. My friend lost her hair after bariatric surgery and she has some amazing wigs, you really can't tell.

When I was away the pool obviously stripped away most of the purple and left me with a nice lighter, almost grey look and that's what got me wondering, it has been a very long time since I saw it that kinda shade but I'm still not sure lol

There is no age you should stop anything really. If you want purple hair until the day you die...do it!

If you want to let it go grey naturally...do it.

If you ...well you get the idea.

The cost can be prohibitive unless you can do it yourself though

45 means nothing these days carry on dying your hair I’d say it can even be an ice breaker for people to compliment you on your hair colour to

Manchester(ish).

Yes OP, I'm the same, although a bit older than you. I've always been known for great hair dos.

This Jan I cut all my artificial colour out and let my grey and natural colour grow.

Its a huge change, only reason I've not gone back to dye, is others have been really complimentary about my natural look.

Good luck !!

Only you get to decide what you're comfortable with. I've been grey since I was 36 and have not yet been told that I should still be dying it!

Manchester (she/her)

I've never done wild colours, but I think I'm going the way my mum has - gradually lightened the colour of her hair (from dark brown) and colouring it less and less. The colouring seems to tame the more bristly grey hairs that come out (both my mum's experience and mine) and having watched my aunts go dramatically and rapidly grey, it's not something I'm up for.

I'm very grey. Every eight weeks I have two colours of foils and root touch up all with semi permanent colour to protect my hair. I occasionally have olaplex to keep it in condition. I have to use a deep treatment every time I wash it to maintain condition and I'm very careful about using heat protection etc.

It costs a fortune and takes a fair bit of time.

It's easier to let it go grey but I won't be doing that.

Thanks all, not sure which route I'll take yet, I've still got some purple left, seems like a waste to chuck it.

I don't think there is an age to stop being colourful.

You do you.

I'm waiting for all the natural colour to fade out of mine, then I'm going purple. I've already got a fancy walking stick that I don't need, ready for rattling it along the railings.

If my grey came in uniform rather than the odd random hair I would consider embracing it. I'm sticking to what I can get away with in work atm till it does
