Has anyone else received the offer from companies to opt out of them before the other promotional emails come in? I've never seen this before for any other holiday such as Mother's Day, Valentine's Day etc. and wonder why they've done it now.

I’ve received them for Mother’s Day in the past two or three years.

I've been receiving them for a while. I'm not upset by them apart from being mildly annoyed at all the spam type stuff

Oh shit, I just searched my inbox and you're right! I must've only just noticed it but seems like a pretty cool thing to do

Oh I know my data belongs to them, they they can have it. I meant more in the context of sending you almost a wanting email about those days coming up as it can be hard for people who don't celebrate it.

I opt out so I get less messages. If they're going to interpret that my parents are dead or estranged, then they're welcome to draw that conclusion, and I'm happy to get less emails. (The days aren't the same in Australia and so the UK emails mean nothing to me)

Yeah I received them for mothers day. I don't think I've ever received one for valentines.

They should do. We don't need reminding we're single!

I don't mind being reminded. I still enjoy being single. Mostly.

Maybe. But surely by saying "would you like to opt out of Mother's/Father's Day emails" you are still reminding the individual that it's Mother's/Father's Day and about the fact they don't want to hear about it.

I think organisations should send less promo/spam email. Just delete it unread (take note, PM'ers. If I delete M&S unread, the chances are the same might happen to you. It's not personal.)

But yes, people should be able to opt out of this stuff, and anything else they don't want to see.

I've seen them for opting out of mothers day emails for a few years now, but this year is the first time I've seen the fathers day equivalent.

I just take it as a good prompt to opt out of emails from companies I haven't engaged with for a while, and unsubscribe if I can.

Yes, I get option for Mother’s Day and Fathers day. Given my situation, I sometimes do. I don’t tend to bother with Father’s Day for myself sort of thing.

It’s good that card and gift websites do that

Less spam?

If you get less spam it'll hurt the economy! or something.

the internet is for spam. and porn.

It's worth having an account just for those companies that force you to give them one, though always opt out when signing up, to as much as possible.

At least your main email address is left clear of their crap, if using 1 specifically for them
