I've just had a thought, there may be an unread message within one of the chat conversations, maybe try scrolling down to the start of each message for a few them or all of them if you want. I had that a while back

We deleted a message without reading it and blocked their profile and it remained on our inbox count for about 2 weeks (which is when they naturally drop off your messages)

Glitch in the matrix.
