Hi

I have just turn 39 and think I am going through some sort of midlife crisis. Anyone known what the symptoms are for a woman.

It's got crap all to do with age or gender, a mid-life crisis is just feeling like you don't mean anything, like your life isn't for anything or in a really deep, genuine way you don't know why you get out of bed in the mornings.

It's not really something that has symptoms, except general feelings of emptiness, frustration and disappointment. Never hurts to talk it over though, as they say.

Well I left my wife, had tattoos, had an affair, then started swinging... Crisis, maybe several years ago, but now I'm content and a happy swinger

That sounds more like depression and if you feel like that then it is best to talk it through with someone before the feelings grow and take over.

I always thought a mid-life crisis was about reassessing your life and wanting to try things now before you got too old.

I think there's probably a big link between mid-life crises and depression, seems like it would make sense that most would involve some kind of depressive episode?

Mine hppened in my mid 30's. I left a decent job and a decent flat up in Brum to live in London with a woman i'd met 3 months previous.

Funnily enough it didn't work out (though we are still very good friends) but 6 years on the only regret is that I didn;t head to London much younger and it is undeniably the best thing I ever did.

I don't think I am depressed. I just want to try new things and feel that I want more out of life.

But not exactly sure want the "more" is yet.

Buying a sports car and a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, then fucking the young guy who works at the petrol station because he reminds you of a pop star you fancied as a teenager.

Sit down and write down negative and positive things that currently exist in your life..

Also write down ambitions, set down goals you want to achieve and see through... current finances, health family permitting.

Be sensible about it.. obviously we don't know your circumstances.. If your lacking social/sexual activity.. Look at what you want social/adult sites.. What avenues do you want to explore..

Is it financial restrictions.. Look at seriously what you can achieve within your existing means..

I had the tattoo and piercing when I hit 30. I hit 41 lost 7 stone and become an adrenaline junkie. Other people call it a midlife crisis, I call it jealousy.

Lifes never been better. Get out there and enjoy it

What you gonna get? I keep saying I'm going to get one and have my navel pierced but I would feel a tad awkward if someone a quarter my age comes towards me with the piercing gun and a look on their face that says "oh no not another well past mid-lifer!"

I think its when you reflect on your life and realise that maybe you are not where you'd like to be.

When I hit 37 and my youngest of 3 was 4 I suddenly had more time to think of me and what I wanted again, previous to that I'd been in mummy mode sinse 1998 when my son was born, and too busy to see that my marriage was not what I wanted and was unsatisfying both mentally and physicaly.

Ended up with me having an affair, going to relate, marriage ending, but for the best for both me and my ex because we had completely outgrown each other.

We are both now much happier, I'm in a LDR with my soul mate, and yes I did get a tattoo last year lol .......

Although I've always wanted one

Hope all goes well for the op xx

A

Mid life crisis?

I think that's what other people call it when you start behaving different than normal...I had a wake up call, I wasn't happy because I was living as a mother, a wife, a daughter...never as me, never doing what I wanted, always having to compromise my happiness and dreams for the family..

Well...not any more!

Your right you need me time ....... we some how get lost in family and life and forget about who we are ... putting everyone first .. I have for years and years just had 3 of my 4 kids move to there own homes I feel lost ... its the same feeling I had when my dad died end of oct ... I feel part of me is missing and I need to find me ... again I know.

Heading for a 'big' birthday often causes people to examine their lives and make changes if they don't necessarily like what they see upon examining....

I was only 35...bought a convertible, left my husband, got a tattoo and starting figuring out who I was and what was important
