Apparently, the MOD can only spare one plane for the D Day celebration to launch parachuters out of the sky. Most of the planes are actively deployed where they are needed. The Minister is so embarrassed that he will 'find more planes' which is code for, 'Take them Away from where they are Actually Needed' Where do you actually 'find a plane' ? It's all over the news

I personally think we should take a slice from a thick, crusty, British loaf, thread it through a French baguette (both of which are traditionally made of bread

), and turn it into an "Entente Cordiale Dough Plane".

Do it a few thousand times, throw them off the cliffs at Dover, and let them glide to Calais, Dunkirk etc. Or at least 20 yards out.

I'm no accountant, but it probably costs less than hiring a warplane from somewhere that's got a spare one.

Plus, it brings the people together in a manner commensurate with our global status.

If the planes are deployed in other areas of combat I think that's fair. It wouldn't make any sense to keep a fleet of aircraft on stand by for such an occasion

Remembering our war dead is important, but not so important that we should create more by removing planes from where they are needed.

Over recent years, Rememberance services and the like seem to have become performance art. We don’t have to do that to remember or honour sacrifices made.

Before people who havent served jump to their own conclusions, operational reasons take priority, yes it would be nice to get as many paras as possible to jump out of a plane as they are pretty useless for anything else however pretty much all our aircrafts are busy moving serving personel around the world.

If anything one plane of paras is more than enough for the show, its that or tell people whos just done 6 month in iraq sorry lads youll have wait abit longer

Which plane are you on about for the parachute drops? The majority of the planes used this week for the drops are C47 Second World War aircraft, not owned by the MOD. And there was certainly more than one.
