Impacted earwax and removal

Has anyone ever had this and had it removed?

What were your symptoms, what was the procedure like and what kind of relief did you get after?

Just had it flushed out with warm water, it’s not painful or anything, just weird, you can also here things you wouldn’t usually hear for a bit

hear!!!

Symptoms was like hearing under water, ear felt blocked, & muffled

My mum has, she went to a hearing place and they used one of those ear camera things to have a look first to check no infection. Then they used a suction thingy, and then they gave it a rinse out after. It didn’t hurt, was just a bit tickly.

Not recommending it, but I have used WD40 and it did break up the wax after about 10 minutes. Flushed with a syringe of warm water and could hear the grass growing after that. Only problem was what I thought was my good ear was lagging behind so it was blocked too.

As I said, not recommending it but it works for me.

I get mine done every cpl years, mircosuction is the best about £60 in my area for both ears and removes all wax, can literally hear the trees blowing when I've had it done

A few days of warm olive oil drops in your ears,flush out with warm/hot water(careful with the hotness),it should come out quite easily.

I had mind syringed years ago, strangerly I quite enjoyed it, instant hearing back.

use a few drops of olive oil for a few days before to soften up the wax and never use cotton buds in your ears

Get it a lot, spend a week or so not hearing, pouring olive oil down my ear. After that a quick wash out by a nurse, feels like it does when you put your ear under a shower but I sometimes get a tickle in the back of my throat but not enough to want to make you cough- amazing how the body is connected in some ways.

You should buy olive oil from the chemist or pound shop, its normally a small bottle about 5 inches tall.

Warm it to body temperature, get comfy, place a towel on your shoulder and tilt you head to the side and have someone pour it in your ear canal.

Wait a few minutes before tilting your head back and pull down on your ear lobe to drain. Repeat in the other ear. And then go shower and allow the warm water to run down your ear canal, wait and drain the same way. Don't use cotton buds In your ear to remove anything, repeat daily until you can hear properly 1-3 days should do it.

I was deaf in one year. Went and had mine done at spec savers. Had a look then suctioned it out. Took about a minute.

Then I could hear again

I hear everything with a 25 percent reduced treble so to speak. My right ear is the worst, I can't hear birds tweeting in the morning (which is possibly a good thing, they're annoying)

Mate I grew up with wives always complaining, my mum for example "oh you know you're father is bloody deaf" and now I realize, how many men would benefit from this procedure?

I'll come back to this thread after the procedure to share my thoughts and hopefully going forward others will benefit.

But really wanna hear other people's experiences

Don't use cotton buds as others have said. Although u might get a little wax on the bud, they essentially just push the wax further in and impact it more.

An audiologist/dr can actually see what they are doing and use the right tool for the job, like a jobson horn which is like a tiny hook, or a little suction device.

There's certain products you can buy at the pharmacy that will soften the wax. Have a look at "doctor vik veer" on youtube. He's done several tests comparing these products to olive oil.

I've been to see this doctor myself. ( for a complex hearing issue).

He's great.

He's an ENT surgeon in the south of England. Lots of great advice on his channel.

I had a high pitched tone in my ears, went to the Drs and got them syringed, it felt nice when it was being done. I did get ear qche afterwards, but I think that was from walking home in the freezing cold.

Microsuction.

Works wonders. Not available on the NHS anymore but even specsavers offer it. About £60 but money well spent and you notice the difference instantly.

Had ears impacted from air pressure changes after going on a flight. Had to apply pharmacy grade olive oil, then got them scooshed out by the practice nurse. It felt weird for a second or two, then it was sorted

I get this. It's about 8000hz in my ears but not as loud

OK so I had my earwax removed but because I have an issue with my right ear I'll just give my experience with the left ear

Basically, spec savers offered ear wax removal treatment for 60 pounds

The procedure takes 30 minutes total for both ears and involves placing a cone in the ear and sucking the wax out with a small vacuum

It doesn't hurt but is a bit loud as to be expected

The wax he pulled out was dark dark brown in the plug end and lighter the other.... Imagine a brown tadpole

Afterwards my hearing felt clear but slightly artificial. I could hear my trousers rustling from slight movements so the results are immediately noticeable

Trigger factors for earwax build up include....

Using cotton buds

Ear protectors (not muffs)

Earphones or any other plug in the ear.

Age

I would suggest the above get there's done, it's beneficial - beard

I have done my own ears a few times now since the nhs won't do it any more, dribble a little warm olive oil in your ear a couple of times a day for five days then use a douching bulb to gently squirt some warm water in a few times find I need to point it slightly upwards. PS have come to the conclusion that ear drops from the chemist are probably a rip off and are nothing more than very expensive small amounts of olive oil.

Yes but make sure you put plenty of olive oil in for a good couple of weeks afterwards its great you can hear everything again .I do recommend you get both ears done as its same price if you have 1 or both ears done

He told me to put some in next week then every week for upkeep
