One of my favourite actors. Very sad news but thanks to modern technology his work lives on. RIP.

I loved him on kid's telly. Everything with him in seemed really vibrant and a bit more edgy, alternative even than most of the other stuff. As new star in heaven tonight

"He shall never now play the Dane"

He'd been a bit old for that for some time.

If there's a lesson here it's that being a 'larger' person and needing heart surgery isn't a good combination.

never seen this posted, and had started my own saying:

quite a shame he's not being recognized for having his own starring show pie in the sky

obviously he's been in countless things such as potter..as side characters

He was in lots of things. My favourite character he played was 'Uncle Monty' in 'Withnail and I'. I shall watch it again.

thats true but would be boring if we were all the same and maybe he didnt live so long but he had a good life though.

Just watched 'The History Boys' in which his character Hector dies, how ironic.

Sugar! I was thinking the black bloke with the moustache. That's Derek, isn't it?

Have just looked at my old video of Withnail and I, which others have mentioned, now I know who we're talking about.

He was good in that. I'll raise a glass to him next time I crack open a bottle
