End of an era

How do you adapt to change? Very soon, my PT will be leaving, to go on to bigger and better things at the other side of the country. He's the only fitness guru who has been willing to work with me and learn about my issues and research/adapt things to be safe and do-able. We've been working together since 2019, and it'll be almost exactly 5yrs when he leaves. Before taking up the gym again with his help, other gyms declined to train me, citing health and safety concerns and many gyms are in upstairs venues with no lifts (both the independent ones in our local area, for example).

I'm absolutely thrilled for him, because it'll open up a great career for him, which he deserves. But the selfish bit in me is really upset because I doubt I'll find another PT who can replicate anything like what he's done for me.

It's put a bit of a downer on things, knowing we have max about 8 weeks left.

But tomorrow, I have to be happy for him, it's not fair for me to be sad. He's worked really hard for this (okay yes, I've helped him, as have others, but still )

It's the end of an era and it's now an uncertain gym-related situation for me. It massively helps my sanity in so many ways and I don't want it to stop

Oh Mrs KC I’m so sorry to hear that.

It’s testament to your good heart that you’re pleased for him though & have even helped him.

Hopefully the gym will employ someone else willing and able to do the same.

If not perhaps a trawl of the internet to find a private PT?

Bless you kinky .... you ARE allowed to be sad but I know what you mean , you don't want to piss on his parade.....

When something similar happens to me I count my blessings .... im sure you do too.

I feel you, KC. This would throw me too. Don't let it stop you going. If nothing else, you have all the knowledge he has imparted!

Has he got any recommendations for other local PTs who he would trust?

Let's hope for a perfect replacement. Or at least someone you can mould now you know what great looks like.

Change is often coupled with loss. The kind you describe is such a mixed bag. I think in part I'm so accustomed to feeling different or conflicting emotions simultaneously: it is reassuring, in a peculiar way.

Maybe it is a little selfish, but then you matter too and it sounds like it will be a loss for you. I hope you overcome those challenges.

Oh no! So sorry to hear this! Is there anyone he can recommend?

Amazing for him and of course you're happy for him, that's clear to see but I can understand how anxious.

Don't give up hope though, you've done amazing to come this far

I'm surprised there is not more support for less able people in a gym environment x

I need help to move equipment, e.g. move 20kg barbell and place it on the bench; to carry and move 5/10kg weights to put on the barbell. I need help to pull things down from standing height to seated. Things like that.

He thinking about alternative PTs, yes. The issue is then not only if they are suitable but then can we schedule at the times I'm free (mainly after work on certain days) and then if they can work at the gym I use, which is accessible and convenient. Like I said in the OP, the two gyms near home are upstairs and there's no lifts.
