So I am trying to budget a bit better with my weekly spend..

So what is the minimum you can live on a week??

Get the Roadkill Cookbook and start dumpster diving, and you could live pretty cheaply

When we first got together and brought our first flat we were living on 'fresh air' after putting money aside for mortgage, bills etc.

I think we were surviving on less than £20 a week for groceries and household basics.

But one thing is for sure, they were happy days and made us totally appreciate what we have today.

Changes from one week to the next.

I take out £100 a wek for shopping and spends.

Sometimes I have some left over, sometimes I hsve to dip into the bank account again.

I have a spreadsheet to keep track of my finances so I know what effect anything I spend now will have on my finances up to 3 montgs after.

Having a grand in the current account this week you could be fooled into thinkin you could treat yourself but by the end of the month that grand might only equate to a spare £50 once everything has been paid.

So well worth doing to keep tabs on things.

Getting paid a set amount and paying everything by DD / SO certainly makes it easier to manage though.

Seriously, do yourself a budget for the next few months on a spreadsheet.

It's a great tool for helping you manage overspends

Some people find it easier to bury their heads innthe sand though and worry about it only when the bills land.

I started doing them out of necessity but found them so useful that I continued doing them even after I became debt free.

I do my accounts every week. I pay all the stuff that has to be paid then give myself "pocket money" this week i bought a stair hoover so paid for that seperate but im pretty good with my money. Ive never had a loan or an overdraft so i cant overspend
