I love the gym!

I'm doing home workouts at the moment though.

Some of the meat heads at the gym are annoying, as is the guy who runs the rack and keeps all the weights next to him.

I do love the feeling after a work out!

Oh we have some bitches too - small village in the commuter belt for aberdeen, so a lot of oil wives with more money and time on their hands than sense, but most of the girls are really nice and there to get fit.

I'm not in the category of perfectly made up and not breaking a sweat, so a few of them have made the "working hard" comments, but you know what - just ignore them - they really do not matter.

My training is mostly power based, I do little in the way of cardio or isolation exercises and prefer to stick to big lifts. My record in the overhead barbell press is 80kg, bench press 103kg, and overhead sandbag press 12 stone...well I like pressing.

I used to enjoy going to the gym and lost 6st in 18 months (which I've regained unfortunately). I'd love to regain the buzz I used to feel but after 10 hours out of the house with work and having to do shopping, cleaning etc I just can't drum up the mojo. I signed up to a gym in January with a compulsory 3 month membership then a rolling monthly fee. I haven't even had an induction or set foot through the door ... and am about to cancel so that was £100 down the drain

I go to the gym for about 30 mins 3 times a week. Not long enough probably and I barely break a sweat. Too much tightly clad lycra eye candy for me to concentrate and the cold weather makes me demotivated, however, I've seen some slight muscle definition on it's way

Well it wasnt in my head. The girls in my gym said I had half a brain because I had seizures and no one in their right mind would want anyone like me after the operations I had on my face. Stuff their gym and their ideal looks. I know not everyone is the same but I felt so shit I'm not going back in there for that. I still use the pool and sauna etc but the gym and spin? Whooonooo. Squatting = weight on your shoulders and bending with your knees till your ass nearly touches the floor

Benching = pressing weights laying flat on your back

I don't go to the gym and it probably shows in my stomach muscles but I do an awful lot of walking on differing terrain in the forest uphill, through boggy land that sort of thing and along the beach and I cycle. My upper body could probably use some work but that is what large glasses of wine are for .

I think you can stay fit without a gym membership

I now go to the gym daily fr a minimum of an hour, cycle 7.5 miles , bench 80 x 20kg / 80 x 25kg / 80 x 30kg in ab crunches and the same in reps in in vertical weights and leg press x

I've lost 2.5 stone I'm 2 months , am fitter than ever an starting to look n feel great x

Absolutely. Its horses for courses obviously, but whilst benching a big weight may sound impressive, outside the gym its of little use and many of the meat heads are out of puff within minutes of anything that entails moving

Hence why I enjoy sandbag and log lifting - far more real world carry over than a barbell (though I like those too).

Eat Clean, Train Dirty.

Love the gym. In there at least 3 times a week doing cardio for 30 mins, chest, back, arm and leg exercises depending on which muscles are not sore.

All the gym work means diddly squat without a healthy diet.

Then again it depends what you want to achieve.

Not really - you need calories to fuel your workouts, and what you eat is VASTLY less important than the weights you're lifting and how.

My point was that there is no point doing hours of gym work if you're diet mostly consists of junk food.

Needing calories to fuel your workout is stating the obvious (to you and me perhaps)
