Passed mine later in life even though I have had a motorcycle licence for years. So I’ve only had it four years but I do like the fact it’s easier to use (a car over a motorbike) on a daily basis and doing basic things like shopping.

Also no helmet hair

All over

Driving to all the lovely places I wanted to see, stopping anywhere I fancied on the way and could do that at any time rather than rely on buses and trains. Having said that, for many years I did not have a car and was ok with that too.

Anything that made it possible to get out of my hometown was a good thing, the driving license helped that.

What a shame it took longer to get a car that didn’t break down so much

I passed my test on the fourth attempt after changing my instructor because he was more useless than I was.

I was the only one of my friends to even attempt to get a licence it was great when I did.

We used to drive into London and just drive around, at Christmas we would see the Christmas shop window designs, well they did I didn't see much as I was concentrating on driving.

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

I passed my driving test at the age of 17 way back in 1957.

The day after passing my test I was called into the office on the construction site where I worked and asked if I would drive the works Mini bus bringing men into work in the morning and then taking them back in the evening.I agreed to do it and my salary was increased to cover the extra hours.

Took a lot of stick the first few days from the Irish navvies who used the service though.
