Yes it may be slightly more exaggerated than travelling between rural Cumbria and London, but it is still far more homogenous than travelling from London to Norway, or Italy, or Greece or Hungary. Regardless of the terrain in the US, they still use their own money, shop in their normal stores, have the same history, eat (mostly) the same food, see the same TV.
