Reporting of the murdered 14 year old in the London sword attack by them was appalling and they’ve been rightly called out for it.

It’s all over (my) social media.

Is there a problem with our media?

"Yes, bias and sensationalism.

It’s not that the media sets out to be sensationalist; its business model leads it in that direction. That’s a massive problem which leads to a fixation on ratings to the exclusion of almost anything else. The outcome is a “ratings bubble” within which the media operate.

The problem is multifaceted. Does media reporting change what we believe, or do our preferences shape what media we choose to consume in the first place? If we give more attention to this sensationalised and biased media, we don’t allow for media providers with verifiably objective reporting to thrive.

At the same time, would it be puzzling if all that news did was provide verifiably objective information? I don’t reckon so but society as we know it would not be the same. We have far more people stopping objective, verifiable information from being spread across masses than those willing to provide. Another way talks loudest. "

Slight edit there. Shush to me.

I think to simplify what you’re saying, is it’s up to us as individuals to understand what our “pop” media outlets narrative is and listen to the wider diverse media outlets. Understanding the agenda of the corporations objective is something, unfortunate as it is, but are unaware of.

I mean, lol ok. But it’s classic stuff.

‘Mystic samurai suspect’

And the image they’ve used of him is him smiling with gold medals around his neck. Compare this to the constant reporting of other criminals? Compare this to the images used of Black *Victims* of crime? It’s literally so obvious the way the media does this I sometimes wonder if it’s all a wind up.

I’ve not seen the sun headlines for almost 4 decades since I worked in a factory age 16, and they don’t make it into my social

Media. So I’m unaware of how it was reported I’d expect that would try and link to asylum seekers or failure of the Labour Party …..

I always thought it was a bit of a comic , dangerously mashing-up news , opinion and entertainment. But I can see how for some this style and also similarly DM and to a certain degree the Guardian for the lefties) fills a need.

They want news, But they don’t want the police statement repeating - It’s boring, and they want to be entertained and have their biases reinforced. I used to like that Aussie newsreader who would read a line of news then pause and comment. Official facts can be boring. We don’t wanna know a man will appear in court on Monday, We wanna know how big his sword was some details of the attack injuries caused, Lucy tires of arms hanging off and what made him do it. If it was a known criminal and a drug addict or asylum seeker, we need gory details, And the Sun goes someway to giving us that, even if they make it all up.

If The Sun (wow, you can type it out - magic!) offends ones delicate feelings, don't read it. It's really easy to do - I've tried not reading it forever, and it works just as long as I'm constantly vigilant in case it sneaks up on me and forces me to read it. There is a lot worse in print out there.

The issue with saying if you don’t like it don’t read it is sometimes it’s unavoidable. I don’t follow Tommy Robinson, Laurence Fox, Joey Barton or Katie Hopkins but they are plastered all over the time line even if hidden, muted and what not.

It’s not the 90s where you physically went out and purchased a rag and read it front to back. Now it’s plastered all over our timelines and in some regards unavoidable.

The comment was about the headline, not necessarily the article and it’s sensationalist garbage and been called out for that.

As for the picture of the murderer with the medals, it has the UK BJJ community up in arms because they/we don’t want him associated in any way with what we love.

The Sun is absolute trash that I wouldn't wipe my arse with, and the Mail supported Hitler back in the day and haven't changed since.

Then you have the Daily Express's obsession with the Sussexes that, had they been a person instead of a newspaper, would have qualified for a restraining order a long time ago.

And let's not forget the BBC, who are now state controlled and can't even spell impartiality anymore.

So yeah, there's a massive problem.

Please go and find out about the role of the British tabloid press in the Hillsborough disaster reporting and the phone hacking scandal and the generally illegal and distasteful things they have carried out, causing significant harm to many people.

The tabloid press has not harmed me personally, for context. That is, however, completely irrelevant.

Your green arrow shows outrage on many topics. A quick google tells me that the Sun has 31.1 million readers per month - nearly half the population of the UK. Why do you believe that your one voice, or even the few on this thread, should be more important, or more correct than those 31.1 million people who choose to read it? Do you believe that your opinion is more valid, or should carry more weight? If so, why?

I'm not sure which bit of what I've written shows outrage *shrug*

If so, why?"

Just go and read the history of The Sun and tabloid press and then decide on whether it just just be ignored.

Have a most splendid evening.

"What did they say ?

They referred to the murdered boy, in a very small section of the front page, as ‘sword lad’ "

what a way for a young innocent lad to be remembered by he was someone’s son this is very distasteful & uncalled for shame on the sun newspaper for this

I notice that you didn't answer any of my questions, but how about this one. What exactly do you want to happen to The Sun?

"Reporting of the murdered 14 year old in the London sword attack by them was appalling and they’ve been rightly called out for it.

It’s all over (my) social media.

Is there a problem with our media?"

Murdoch’s a radioactive turd. The worst of humans.

The media in general particularly tabloid journalism can at times truly be a cesspit for causing problems or stirring up lies or trouble where at times there is none or something has been vastly blown out off proportion…

Every different media outlet be it Right wing leaning or Left wing or centre etc has their own individual agendas or patterns off reporting issues of events..

For example with U.K. based right wing leaning outlets like The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express, Telegraph, TalkTV, GB News just off the top off my head…

These types typically thrive on misery or sensationalism and channel into subjects mainly involving Immigration, Asylum Seekers, Religion, Gender Politics/LGBTQ, Woke, Crime especially when it’s committed by one of said previous mentioned groups, Nationalism, Criticising strikes or protests revolving working conditions/pay/shortage off staff/over worked personnel/ safety concerns.

Let’s not forget the phone hacking scandal that the Rupert murdoch owned news off the world had committed especially one victim who was deceased I believe? Very classy..

Sky News at times even some off their anchors be it U.K. based or abroad for example Australia have at times not been any better..

Regarding The Sun their track record is especially vile tbh either then just quietly report the incident off a young boy being violently murdered by a sword wielding psychopath they instead come up with witty nick names….

which lets face it is as bad as it is shows there is no low depth they won’t go to.

Do Right media groups have their own moments off genuine journalism or correct stories/points off value? From time to time yes they bring value or highlight subjects/issues a lot off people don’t usually wish.

Now to balance it out left wing leaning media are not always that great either be it BBC, ITV, Channel 4, The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Mirror, Morning Star and so on to various city based outlets for E.g. The M.E.N which where I live is more the local based news for Manchester and Greater Manchester Regions/Towns.

Who most would look on for to be objectionable or fairer have also had their fair share off fuck ups and retractions in their time which have falsely reported or ruined people’s lives with their narrative or undercover activities who were actually as it turned out innocent and the false reports had already caused the damage.

Looking to scoop up hot gossip or leaked information on private lives is pretty much their bread and butter so to speak they specialise in shining lights on unwanted or unknown subjects which can go viral and need to be highlighted but have as well had their fair share off questionable/shady practices..

Bottom line is media and journalists are just that some are more reasonable or believable but their true nature or agendas come to light through their work many off them are responsible in one form or the other off creating tensions or misery for people around the world.

If I made a miscalculation or error in this post I’ll acknowledge or raise my hand most off it is just stuff I made up as I went along or heard/read about or saw..

There are many problems with our media. We have no real coverage just propaganda. Everyone seems to think they are above such manipulative a tivities but experience tells otherwise. Like Heroin, it’s a don’t even go there thing for me
