How mad is this. Apparently Winston Churchill’s government banned pints of wine years ago

On the continent you can order a small carafe of wine which tends to be 0.5 litres or half a litre, or 500ml.

A pint is 568ml.

Is this a badge of honor that the English can drink more than the Continentals

To be fair Tom the price of alcohol in pubs these days, we'll all be ordering one of those little OJ breakfast glasses instead soon. I'd not worry about it

Sounds divine: pop to the pub for a pint of wine after my powdered egg breakfast.

On the contrary, a pint of wine was his preferred size apparently.

However, Churchill was very much in favour of a united Europe, believing it would bring peace.

Personally, I’d like a a bottle about that size but don’t care if it’s a pint or half a litre.

Europe never stopped things from being sold in imperial measures, they just insisted on metric measures being shown too. In reallity our mix of imperial and metric measures is quite eclectic.

I once ordered a double brandy and Bailey's and the bartender said they weren't allowed to serve that many units of alcohol in one glass.

Just another way to make more money by reducing the size but charging more for it
