It depends what you're putting in the tin.

The Continental

Go for 8”, you can get some nice spongy girth that way.

Most recipes are for an 8" one. Might have to adjust the ingredients accordongly

IPSWICH

8 inches would fine for most. 10 and 12 really take the biscuit. Better to be slightly smaller and firm throughout than bigger and doughy in the middle.

I mean, it absolutely depends which tier you're cooking...

Unless you're on some sort of baking TV show (and therefore being fancyand making the tiers upside-down), you'd probably want to make the base tier a 12", then go to 10", then 8". If you need 4 tiers, then I guess you'd top it with an 6", unless whoever you were making it for wanted the 8" as the top tier....

This is not that kind of thread, thank you. As for the tin, I went and ordered the 8" so I don't have to adjust the recipe.

It’s not the size of your cake op, it’s all about how it tastes, and that’s measure by her sigh when she puts it in her mouth.

Always made with live and to exacting recipe instructions as you need that with cakes or can be a bit of a flop otherwise
