Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I have written on the forums before about indications of the menopause. I started bleeding between my periods before Christmas and went to the doctors for tests. However, they didn't contact me with any results so I assumed that it wasn't the menopause.

This month I have had no period at all. Apart from the mid cycle bleeding my periods are pretty regular, but this month nothing! Is this also normal for starting the change? I have made sure I am NOT pregnant (phew!) and will be going back to the docs soon as I can but was wondering if this is normal.

My friend of mine was going through the same thing a few months back, and thought she was pregnant as she had missed her period which was odd for her as she was very regular, and the doctors put it down to menopause as she was in her early 40's. I guess in one way it's bad as you can't have kids, but on the plus side no more condoms (with partner of course)

I had a few years of no periods now I'm getting them every 3 weeks and really really heavy too, my doctor said it was premenopausal systems

I've been put on iron tablets as I was losing so much

I do so sympathise with you OP

Yes this is what happens, your periods will just get less and less untill they stop. But just get it checked by your doctor and good luck. x

Wyrdwoman this does sound very much like early menopause symptoms to me. You're wise to be going to the doc and you will probably be referred to a specialist but that in itself will only be a precaution. This is probably a hormonal blip and if it's anything else you are widely getting it sorted quickly. Hope all goes well.

Yes, I'm going to make an appointment, but was concerned as the blood tests three months ago showed no sign.

You need to be a year without a period over 50 and two years under to safely stop using contraception. Please don't think you're not at risk.

Your hormone levels could be dropping hency why the change in your periods.

Altho your docs said you wernt in the menopause last time you got checked,your hormone levels could still be dropping and you may get a diffrent reading if you hve it checked again xxx

The blood test they do is not always conclusive.

Erratic periods are a sign of the menopause, but wise to get checked out anyway.

To anyone who complains about the subject, the thread title was a givaway so maybe you could have just not opened it.

The reason I ask is because I had mirena for years and experienced similar symptoms to yours which were eventually put down to my coil. I only had mine removed a year ago

I started going through the menopause when I was 34! Mine was pretty straight forward, I just stopped having periods and after 8 months decided to go to the dr! Had a blood test and it was all confirmed!

Not sure how accurate the hormone blood test is though!

i would have thought the title gave you a good idea of the nature of the post and so it could be avoided if you didnt want to read about it. simple really.

I'm 48, I would say for about the last three years my period were more and more erratic, I went to my doctor last year and the previous year I had only had 4 periods, the main thing for me was the hot flushes that I couldn't cope with, I went onto HRT last July and the hot flushes stopped within 2-3 weeks, Dr didn't want to do a blood test she said that the fact that my periods were as they were was an indication that I had started the menopause, keep a note of the date of your periods

It's called the perimenopause and is the stage before the actual menopause. It can last for several years & your periods can fluctuate wildly, both in terms of how heavy they are and timing.

The real kicker is that if you're not regulating the timing via birth control medication you can't predict the timing any more. This can make arranging meets quite difficult for obvious reasons.

Nothing to worry about though.

Whilst erratic periods can be a sign of menopause or perimenopause, any woman who is bleeding between periods should see their GP as it can be significant and should be followed up. There are several reasons why women bleed between periods and not all are serious but its always best to get checked out.

If your smears are not up to date you should consider having that done too.

I cant remember whether you said you had contacted the GP following your last blood test or just assumed that as they had not contacted you all was normal, you should be able to ring and ask for your results.

On a lighter note, if they are putting you in stirrups to take blood - theyre not doing it right!!
