"I guess the MX5 really *is* the answer to everything." Haha you're referring to what the North Americans call MIATA - Miata Is Always The Answer... I guess it is for me! Do you own one?

"Do you own one?" Nope. (And it’s an old joke from Pistonheads.)

"Used to have an NC 2litre sport, loved that car, topless in all weathers " As an avid YouTube watcher of all things MX5, it seems people are being less harsh judging the NC these days... It is the most hated version and fans called it "bloated" and "suburban". My current MX5 is an NC ... Ouch. I wanted a hard-top that folds and personally, I don't much like the targa style ND RF. It still feels too enclosed and not a proper topless car. So what do you drive now, if any?

"Am considering buying one.... but rust reaaaaaaaly worries me... seen one for £2k without an mot, previous mot shows brakes and sills as advisories.... tempted, but worried..." If the sills are full of rust then there is a good chance the rear wheel arches will need replacing also, about 3 years ago I paid £550 each side to have sills and wheel arches replaced.

"Am considering buying one.... but rust reaaaaaaaly worries me... seen one for £2k without an mot, previous mot shows brakes and sills as advisories.... tempted, but worried..." They do get past a point of no return when it comes to rust underneath... This is the main thing to look out for. Buy from previous owner/s who garaged it and I still do mine. I can understand your budget if your MX5 is a second fun car... But mine is my main car, so I would shell out a bit more, maybe £4k-£5k for one that is 6-8 years old, and done about 40k-50k on the clock. I'm going to pay for my sills to be cleaned, patched if required and protected.
