Closest was an endurance Mud Run called the Pain, Misery and Suffering which was a 10 mile course (there were also 10km and 5km laps for people who really wanted to push) however the distances were very underestimated and got talking to people after who had GPS and they said the 10M one actually clocked in around 12.7M so just shy of a half marathon but with lots of water obstacles, stair cases, obstacles and mud.

Lived up to its name and was the closest I have ever been to turning my chit in during a race.

No, did the GNR with a couple of weeks notice (inherited place). Totally hideous! Even more hideous when the realisation dawned that the person's number I had was in the 'elite' section

Lost my number, lost a toenail, very quickly lost all self respect! Awesome day... Would not do again

No. But when I was in my early 20s I did a 50 mile kayak race in the Umgeni Valley in Natal, South Africa. That involved both paddling and carrying your kayak over compulsory portages.

I loved cross country running as a teenager, so fancifully added marathon to my bucket list in my 40s and did three whole training sessions with a friend before discovering i now detest jogging /running

That was the end of that

My SIL loves running and has done GNR a few times.

19 miles were great fun...even got a few dates after as nothing like running next to an attractive woman for a few miles to break the ice!!!

6 miles were horrific including throwing up in front of several hundred people on the embankment...

Greater London

55 marathons ran.

Got addicted at some point, like many others.

Managed to get 8 under 330 when I was fit once.

Sadly no more, I tend to cycle now, which again, I seem to be addicted too.

Marathon running is easy. It's the training which is hard. And that compulsion for suffering comes from within the body and mind.

This. Chocolate, yes. Peanuts yes. Chocolate with Brazil nut, yes. Chocolate with hazelnut, yes. Chocolate with peanut? Absolutely not. Never. Shiver thought if it is sick.

Marathons? C has completed one, I've done 5, three road and two trail and 6 trail ultras. Quite a few training runs have been over marathon distance too.

What I would really like is too get a good time in a marathon. Was hoping for a sub 3.30 in my last but managed to contract Giardia 6 weeks out. The 6kg I lost in the few weeks it took to diagnose was a big help but it ruined my training and fitness. Considering having a go again this year.

I did London in 2006 but got injured two months before and achieved a terrible time. I was gutted as it’s the only one I’ve done and running was my thing.

Done dozens of halves and they’re my favourite distance. Long enough to be challenging but not so long the training takes over your life.
