infection in the brain

i have just received some news saying that one of our patients, parents was taken into hospital

they think he has an infection in his brain. he had been fitting at home for 2 hrs before the ambulance could get there

so my question is this

if someone has an infection on the brain can they make a full recovery ..

very sad news i hope they can get through this

Sorry bout the sad news. But it can depend on the infection,, 2hrs of fitting is a long time, and depends how good the doctor is at diagnosing anything serious,, hope everything is ok.... Thoughts are with you

Yeah they can depends how bad the infection is and the level of care...no doubt they will induce a coma to stay the fitting whilst its looked into.

I think only a doctor can tell you the full answer to this question. However I will say that my mum friend had an infection on the brain and is classed as disabled now..

My brother had one when little and is grand now it took him a good long time to recover but he is ok.

I had meningitis as a kid, I had to have a tap fitted through my scull to drain the fluid. I have a big scar on my head but my hair covers it luckily.

My short term memory is shit as it caused some scaring on my brain. But I know I'm one of the luckier ones.

Really hope all is well.

Don't assume the worst, take it as it comes medicine has evolved so much.

so do i , this family really are going through the mil at the minute

they have a very poorly son and now this

i hope he can make a good recovery.

i took a step back from working with the family as it was very stressful for me ( selfish i know, but caring for some of our more poorly children was taking its toll)

knowing that potentially the child could stop breathing at any point was upsetting this family really could do with a break and a flippen miracle

It depends on if its a viral or bacterial infection or could it be down to a previously undiagnosed condition (epilepsy can be dormant for years).

Issues can also arise from lifestyle issues such as alcohol consumption.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the length of the seizure just what caused it.

A while back I woke up in ITU missing a week I had a infection that the painkillers I take masked the symptoms. They induced a coma and let my body try to fight it with their help. I have made a full recovery with lots of help, so it ca be done. Hope things works out for the family. People around them that help and care really do help alot.

I have heard just now that it is a viral infection of the brain . He has been ventilated and is o a coma. Not sure how long for. .

I know you don't know him personally but this is a lovely family. Please keep him in your prayers do sad.

My husband was put in a coma, not through a brain virus but its still not nice seeing someone hooked upto machines not knowing what's going on... Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.... Keep us updated

I Mr Super suffered with viral meningitis a few years ago and was hospitalised for about 5 days severe headaches being the main symptoms but a lumber puncture giving me massive relief and i made a full recovery with no side effects but i think Mrs Super may disagree!!

Just had a message with an update. Yesterday he responded to his wife and daughter's voice.

Today,

He has been breathing by himself with small assistance off the ventilator.

When asked if he wanted a fan he shook his head . Family are not getting hopes up but he's a fighter xx
