Flintshire, north Wales.

Cons: yes there is a problem with drugs and youths but that's across the board. There's not a great deal to do but you have got Chester, Liverpool and Manchester within an hour's drive.

Pros: plenty of public footpaths for great walks, lots of reasonably priced days out for families. And the scenery in most places is spot on.

It can be very quite on the isle untill all the TTbikers arrive, and u haven't got the on ur door step type shopping, no shopping malls just a high street and various shop around but all in all safe and pleasant.

Good things about this area. The climate is pretty good but wet nowadays. If you're in a big town transport links are ok. There are loads of things to do and cities and countryside are easily accessible. There are jobs in hospitality and the care sector.

Bad things are overcrowding, over development, pollution, lack of services and high cost of living

It's compact and easy to travel around with everything you need for day to day living. Also much chearper than down south.

Worst part is it's staggeringly local with everyone seeming to have only 1 or 2 degrees of separation. That makes meeting etc. difficult.

Yes, having a beach nearby is nice! I'm not too far from the coast at the moment. But water pollution is definitely becoming more of an issue now

Best - it's quite a small town so everything is pretty much in walking distance

Worst- it's a small town. Full of cafés vape shops and charity shops. Not much to do. Public transport is one bus an hour either direction, train to the nearest major station similar. You need a car really to get anywhere fast but there's a ridiculous one way system and rush hour traffic is insane.

The town I live (and work) in is an absolute pit. Half the shops are closed, the others either not great, or things I personally don't want/need. Some of the residents are less than desirable.

But I think sadly, this is the state of many a British High Street in 2024. Covid/lockdown killed a lot more than some of the population.

On the plus side, when the staff are not striking, there are pretty good rails links into London, or to the coast; I'm a few minutes drive from the M25 and therefore the gateway to the rest of the country, and if you drive for maybe 20 minutes, you can be out in fields and countryside.

It's split into 2 parts.

The old part which is nice, kind of rural.

The new part which is OK but kind of souless.. lots of roundabouts and built quickly after world war 2 on an american bomb making site.

Best part is the canals and green spaces..and I can to to most far away places from here easily via public transport or motorway.

When did you last visit Leeds? It’s really bad now. Yesterday I had to report a man who was literally ripping his clothes off and trying to pull imaginary things out of his skin. Blood dripping down his hands. He was tearing everything apart clearly searching for something he could feel on his body, that didn’t exist.

Was pretty scary, like something out of a horror film.

It’s like that regularly in the city centre now.

S’alright if you like hippies. The “welcome to” sign is always getting changed to “twinned with Area 51 or narnia” not many Devon folks there. Although Dartmouth and Kingswear down the river from Totnes are both lovely. West Devon if you like the moors (make Tavistock your base). North Devon for the rugged coast and Exmoor.

Absolutely. It's so sad. I remember as a kid going (being taken) to the smaller, independent shops - butchers, bakers, greengrocers... then everything was purchased in the supermarket...

Now I am just as guilty as others, buying stuff online, because it IS more convenient, and sometimes cheaper, BUT... not everything I want can be bought on the high street. A vicious circle, sadly.

I do try and buy some stuff in small independent shops, but time/availability limitations apply.

Sometimes it would be nice if life didn't go at 100mph all the time...

You’re joking? Caversham Court was lovely (if it’s still there, it’s been a while). There’s also the walk to Pangbourne and not forgetting the River Kennet, all lovely places when I was a lad

Best things......house prices are fairly cheap if you want to buy. Its very rural so 10 minutes drive and you're in the country. The area is steeped in history. You're an hours drive from major shopping areas like Glasgow and carlisle

Worst things......the local council couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery. They spend money on absolute shite like a 250k fountain refurbished, tens of millions on a leisure centre then more millions on repairs. Roads are atrocious (but then that's a widespread problem). Retail shopping is a joke unless you want charity shops. The specific area of the town I live in is in the top 10 of the most poverty stricken areas in Scotland.

And the most important thing.....fabbing isn't all that great

Well it rains most of the time. The sky is grey most of the time. It's often very cold, but that damp, slushy meh kind of winter. Not the powdery snow and sunglasses type of winter.

Also chips now come in small cups and cost £5. And everything is bad for you so you have to pay more tax to fund the extra NHS costs, but you can't get an appointment - as there's no doctors left. So fuck knows where that money is going to.

I'm referring to the UK in general, no offence intended.

It's a NZ city, but more like a UK town. There is pristine countryside, coastline and wildlife just minutes away in all directions.

A wonderful place to raise children.

Worst:

Literally the other side of the World from my family and closest friends.

I would say the best is that I'm so close to the sea and surrounded by several beautiful beaches. Absolutely incredible transport links that take you easily to scenic and wonderful places. A great sense of community and a lot of local events and I can not forget the delicious restaurants.

Bad thing is the cost of renting and buying. And the fucking wind.

We used to live in one of the suburbs/towns that make up Nottingham. Enjoyed it - granted we didn't live directly in the little town but walkable. Decent amount of shops for what we needed. Transport was excellent and something we do miss now up here - going from a bus every 7 minutes or so and multiple options to one an hour either way. Nottingham itself only a 15 minute drive or so away. Enjoyed the "city living" even though it doesn't feel too much like a "city".

Don't miss the dodgy goings on, the wannabe gangsters giving it large, or the trams. Annoying things.

I am a Londoner in Cambridge.

Best is the historical preservation, greenery, nice shops, relaxed and safe feel of the city. Nice place to raise a family.

Negatives for me is a small and limited nightlife, it is just a bit too boring here for me. Some evenings it is like a ghost town. Also station is far from the city centre.

As a Yorkshireman living in Oxford, I find it hard to say anything nice about this place. Sure, it's got all that history and lovely old buildings but it's over-run with tourists and there aren't the facilities you'd expect in a city of any size as people can easily go to London for entertainment and shopping - and even Fab meets.
