Don't call me ....

By the seaside

Totally irrational I know but it annoys me when someone calls me babes in an opening message. Sweetie, darling, doll etc not a problem but just that one word babes lol. It puts my back up and means the sender is straight away on an up hill struggle!

Like I said irrational and I can laugh about it.

My question is what, if any, puts your back up especially if it is irrational.

Too many to list but I don't think they are irrational. The rationale may not be one with which the sender agrees but it is my rationale.

"Over familiarity is most off putting "
I am not sure what it is about really - perhaps you are right and it is over familiarity that bugs me. Just because we are on this site it does not mean I want to get close to everybody who messages me. Maybe you are right and that is why it bugs me. But besides that, it is also about the guy/ couple seems to be useing the same terms for every woman and that indicates lack of differentiation (another bug of mine) - I feel I have a name - so why not use it

It signifies that women are inferior to the sender. Just silly little girls that don't require respect let alone adult treatment.

I just can't believe that someone with a well written profile, who is just your physical 'type', who writes a clearly individual message to you, writes about what they liked about your profile and why they are interested in making contact, sends a face pic (at which you think 'mmmmmm') .... would really blow all of their chances out of the water by ending the message "take care hun"

Lol well the flower pot caller was a work connection, 20+ years my senior and from Yorkshire, so yes local dialect does come into it, and doesn't bother me one iota!

So, alright my little flower pot lol

So to turn it around, I know a woman that calls every guy she meets 'babe'.

She even calls her customers it ! She's a cab driver here in Essex. Not very lady like and she is a right loud mouth cow. She is good looking but that voice and the language is so off putting.

That type of message would be top heavy on the postive side.

It's the 'hi babe' or 'lo sexy' ones that miss the mark.

I use the word hun for female friends or people I know well enough to use what is in my eyes a term of endearment. Never ever called a male that or similar.

Personally don't care if in a message I am called hun or other such words, babe I hate though as just sounds so chav like

But I wouldn't be put off, I do however hate being called Ju or Jules
