MSN Messenger and MySpace.

I added a load of random people on MySpace when it first came out, from all over the world. Some of us have followed each other over to all the newer social media platforms, I'm still friends with some of them now and have actually met a few of them from Canada and The States

Myspace was excellent for a good few years, went downhill quickly after the Murdoch buyout..

Used it to network with musicians a lot.

And chat forums. I met some great guys on one called chatagogo.

You could almost guarantee the first message would be ASL please lol.

On the subject of AOL I miss the old screeching sound of a dial up modem as you were logging in.

I don't miss getting kicked out when someone phoned the house.

ICQ, similar to MSN messenger.

I actually met a girl from NYC on there and we met and dated for about 6 or 7 months.

Cost a fortune back then in the late 90s early 2000s.

Not as fancy as yours by any stretch but I met a guy from Guernsey. The first time I flew was to see him.

He’d pay for my flights every other weekend. We did that for a few years. It was great fun. I met him on a chat room on AOL.

I miss those days for sure.

That was the early 2000’s

Not really it was a bit basic and a lot of things hidden behind pay walls. There was a lot of "secret parties" that they advertised for a cost (never bothered applying) and one day they decided to block the accounts of everyone over the age of 30 because fuck you that's why.

Finally they made everyone agree to a long terms and conditions full of narcissistic stuff and if you didn't agree to it your account was automatically deleted. I said no and I never went back.

I just had a look and it's still going. Like a time capsule.
