Can anybody tell me how you screw top hung vertical blinds into a steel rsj? They are to cover bi fold doors.

Would self taping screws do the job or would you have to drill first or potentially add a batten?

Its either £200+ with fitting or an easy £90 for the blinds alone.

Thanks

You'll need to drill into the RSJ first. They are normaly just mild steel, so a standard HSS drill bit will do it.

Is the steelwork cladded in or can you get to it? If you can get to it, just drill through and put a nut and bolt in.

If it's cladded you will need to tap the hole and then screw a bolt into it.

When it comes to screwing the wife prefers well hung but wouldnt pay £200 even if he was blind, i think the £90 is better but seems a lot if ive got to do it myself

The steel looks like an I ... It is above the bi folds spring the exterior wall and is plastered over.

If it is drilled what kind if screws do you use then..

cheers again

If you can see the steel, ie, you can touch it freely, just drill a 6mm dia hole through it with a good HSS drill bit and use a 5mm dia nut and bolt. You won't be able to use self tappers on an I beam.

Is it an RSJ or a modern lintal (catnic) which is much easier to drill, the best idea is to do a small piolet hole and see how easy it is to drill, if its a catnic then you can use plasterboard screws, other wise i'd drill it over size and raw plug it

You could just stick it on with Sikaflex, just don't plan to remove them afterwards

Its an I beam on an exterior load bearing wall.

Hss drill bit seems to be needed, I was hoping self tappers would be the only thing needed... I'm not exactly fluent with diy sorry

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

The steel is in an exterior, load-bearing wall where a 7ft bi-fold has been fitted. The steel is already plastered and painted so there is no access to it for using a nut and bolt. The vertical blinds are to hang under the steel, into the recess. The question is how to do it.

Fix a piece of wood using no more nails paint it white and it will. Look good, if you have trouble getting it to stay up channel some plaster out the sides and then slip it in using filler to tidy up all the edges if you

Or use piece of wood the exact same size and paint or wallpaper over it looks like a wall then

Difficult to explain in words easier to do in practice
