Anyone watching this? I'm a couple of episodes in. Beautifully shot in black & white but I'm finding it a little slow so far. Heard good things about it so sticking with it.

Have watched the first two, and by the start of the second I was buying Andrew Scott's portrayal more than Matt Damon's (and I like the Damon version a lot).

Definitely enjoying it, but I think it's two episodes a week for me rather than a binge - if I rush it I'm likely to miss some of his more subtle moments, and they are what is making it better than the Damon movie (I think).

I'm torn on this. I've not started yet, but the Damon/Law 'Ripley' is one of my all time favourite films (so beautiful!) so I'm not sure I want any comparisons, good or bad...

Did John Malkovich play him also, I think it was Ripley's Game.

I'm a huge fan of the Ripley books by Patricia Highsmith. This is shaping up to be the best adaptation yet

Maybe you could use Malkovich as a "fluffer" to wean you off Damon/Law and onto Scott?

And that comment, in isolation, can never find its way onto my tombstone... .

Not my usual watch, but put the first episode on last night after seeing your post OP. Not a fast paced storyline so far, but watchable.

I'm a bit of a photographer on the side, so definitely appreciating the skill of the B&W shooting.

John Malkovitch is in the series.

I've watched it all now and as I've never seen the Damon one I can't compare. I was invested so stuck it out. I liked how it was filmed and it's very clever but I'm not sure I really enjoyed it ! I do however like the historical aspect ! Loved how it ended ( no spoilers) .

Give it a go but, not really my cup of tea.

It's very 'arty' in mono but, a bit too slow paced for me.

My nan’s spare room.

I’m really enjoying it, but as it’s monochrome I can only watch it on Mondays.

I'll give it a watch. Not sure it's something we really needed considering there's a copule of good film versions. Really liked the drama about Theranos on BBC if you're looking for a watch. We're defintely in need of a new Madmen, Saul, Breaking Bad, Wire type show to hook us all for several seasons.

St Leonards

Just finished it after a bit of a hiatus.

Beautifully paced, shot, scripted, acted...and Andrew Scott held the whole thing together with an absolutely chilling intelligence married to a just-beneath-the-surface mania.

One of the best things I've watched for a long time.

Time soon for a re-watch of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", just for the lighter, non-murderous version of similar themes .

Maybe, but the only Ripley I'm interested in. Especially in her space pants.

Actually loved the slow pace and tension to it. Kind of thing BBC used to make but now thinks its audience are too simple to appreciate.

I did find Stings daughter who played Freddie a tad jarring. Not so much in a bad acting sense but more a nobody confronts that it's clearly not a man and that felt it would've been an issue in the time period.

Although saying that Andrew Scott is nearly 50 and playing someone in their 20s.

Definitely one I'll rewatch a bit like Better Call Saul.

I had to look them up when they first appeared on screen, they have a 2 brothers and a sister and has no belief in gender labels so neither man or women rather they or them.
