A Secret Hideaway In the caravan of love

These days the only unsolicited calls I seem to get are automated recorded messages.

So you don't get the satisfaction of telling a real human being to **** off

And they all come up number withheld

TPS only stops UK routed calls for any others I just put the phone down as soon as I realise.

Sometimes if I'm really fed up I just walk away and leave the phone on the side for half an hour.

Don't answer phone if I don't know the number. If they leave a message I listen and return if need be.

politely inform them that i am with theTPS ad they are breaking the law.

TPS covers all UK based companies regardless of where their call centres are based i believe or we would have no uk based outbound call centres if it didnt

yeah get your number on the TPS.

But that being said if you use price comparisons sites or the like, remember to tick or untick(whatevers applicable) the box that says about passing your details on to third parties, they make money selling on your details. its a massive gaping loophole in the rules, make the TPS totally ineffectine

I'm on the TPS, a few months ago I got a call asking for 5 minutes of my time to do a survey, I was feeling in a magnanimous mood and foolishly agreed...answered a load of questions about PPI, pensions, insurance etc. and to all the questions asking would I like further advice regarding said pensions, PPI, insurance et al, I responded that I didn't want any further info. Was then asked for a password for a "prize draw"...cue months of calls giving the password and saying I'd requested extra info - Grrrr! I now ask to be taken off their lists - am always polite as the poor fuckers are just doing a job, but I do rant a bit to them about the original survey takers!

Slightly off-thread but I've also taken to telling the charities I support that if they ring me asking for more money, I'll stop my direct debits - so far that's working

I personally love my father in law's response which is to tell them he's in the middle of having sex with a neighbour so can't really talk!

I once told a guy that was trying to sell me a credit card that i was just about to phone him to ask if he wanted double glazing! Said i'd take the credit card if he took the windows. The guy hung up on me!

If it's one of those recorded messages I hang up. If it's a person I say sorry I don't have time to talk right now and say bye.

I am never rude to a person at a call centre. They are doing a job, they aren't calling with the specific reason of pissing me off.

Ohh... unless it was a heavy breather... never had one but I'd probably still say sorry I'm busy right now.

I seldom answer the mobile when it rings, and let the call go into voicemail.

If it is urgent, the caller would leave a message.

I don't answer the house phone at all, except when my mum calls, and she only rings late at night due to being a different time zone.

This guy Tom Mabe has a good way of dealing with those type of calls. In this one he gets called by guy trying to give him a free satellite dish. So Tom then pretends to be a police officer. It's very funny.

I have heard two cracking responses to these...one was an uncle and the call came in at the time his footie were about to kick off on the TV...he picked the phone up and simply said 'this better be a life or death call don't you know the f'*cking Hib's are on the TV'...then looked at me smugly and said they hung up on him

Other one the guy kept one of the conservatory sellers on phone for two hours, was getting top of the range everything...towards end of call he turned round said when the crew turn up make sure they bring extra long ladders, the seller must have asked why because then he said, because I'm living on the third floor you twit.

TPS only works if the call is coming from the UK, I tried this several years ago and still received crap, same with mail MPS, it can help but is not 100% foolproof

On the mobile I use Mr Number to block them.

On the landline I ask them to wait a second and then place the handset by the radio and leave it.

TPS doesnt stop any of the foreign based calls, and we get them more than anything else...

I normally start making weird noises down the phone or I ask them to hang on and then just walk away...they are seriously getting on my tits these days.

MPS stops some..but it certainly doesnt stop the amount of shit the postman now stuffs through the door in place of it...we should be allowed to opt out of that for a start..

Can I ask you not to do this, it's something that could impair someone's hearing and I'm quite sure that you're not looking to permanently damage an employee of one of these firm x

I once worked for a call centre, where one of my colleagues had this happen to her and her eardrums were burst!

The Police were called in, the customer was charged with assault, fined and earned themselves a criminal record!

I'd forgotten about that. I joined it 8 weeks ago and we haven't had an unsolicited call in all that time. Must be working then.

Why do you refer to them as a customer ?

We don't want these calls and are not seeking a service. Maybe a victim would be a better description than customer.

I have a couple stock responses

1 The person who they are calling for has fallen into a mincer and a sausage factory, he was missing 3 days before anyone noticed and they never managed to recall all te sausages

2 That I'm burgling the place and am sorry that I'm putting the phone down but I don't want to wake the householder

Puts phone to one side and waits for them to hang up.... Which they aren't supposed to do...

It's alright if you can afford to ignore unknown numbers of withheld. I'm on the transplant waiting list, all the calls I get from the hospital are witheld numbers. I really don't want to miss the call, I've been waiting over 8 years and don't really fancy waiting another 8 because I didn't answer phone.

Yes I find the calls annoying at times but some time have a little fun with the scammers trying tell me my PC has viruses. Recorded messages I just hang up, surveys just tell them I'm not interested and hang up or waste their time especially the PPI lot as I've never had it.

That is funny!

If it is not an automated unsolicited phone call, I tell the caller that I am not the house owner and that the person he should be talking to is in the garden, bath, shed etc. and if he holds on I will get them. Believe it or not some are still waiting 10 mins later.

That's because it's essentially a paid break For them lol

Don't really see the point in this. They are probably being paid by the minute so you are incurring them more income plus it goes up your lines for any genuine calls
