This is one of those tropes which seems to have a particular appeal to women.

For those who are into that sort of thing (and probably felt a buzz when they read the thread title), what's the appeal?

Do you mean enjoying the genre in terms of books & films?

Or a sexual roleplay type thing?

Hello Prey, I don't believe we've met. Hopefully one day we'll be able to talk in person.

Why do I like the vampire trope? Not enough that I got a wide on reading the title but enough to think I'd respond.

I like being bitten on the neck whilst I'm being fucked.

I like that delicious blend (if you think of late 19th c onwards depictions) of poise and class and that repressed sexuality. That trope of barely contained lust that's released in a feral maelstrom of need. It's that anticipatory eroticism associated with them, the delicate balance of gentleman and predator.

I like that sort of succubus idea - being recharged by another. After sex/a few orgasms I find I come alive and want all the sex whilst my lover is more often than not spent. That's vampiric isn't it? That exchange of energy that drains one and leaves another rejuvenated.

No because they don’t exist (and also romantic - Bleurgh)

I enjoy supernatural stuff purely as fiction. Pure escapism. Occasionally with some amazing leather costumes thrown in.

I withdrawal my comment, the dim lighting and standing far away is fine though.

I agree with the poise and class, repressed sexuality, and the delicate balance of gentleman and predator. Well put, and it’s why vampires are cool in a way that characters from similar genres aren’t.

On occasion I do ask for guys opinions but it depends on the topic, in this case about vampires I'm more interested in what women have to say, as mentioned it seems to be a trope with a particular appeal to them.

Well vampires and most supernatural/folklore beings are a reflection of the zeitgeist. I'd rather Nosferatu wasn't brought back, that whole caricature of a Jewish person with the pronounced nose, the accent... personally I'd rather not return to those times. You know, Jewish people being seen as bad. Other.

Maybe I'm weird though.

London

Gary Oldman's Count Dracula role play struggling against biting me and dragging me to the darkness but succumbing to the temptation. So romanticly erotic.

I've been in the house where they filmed some of Interview with a Vampire.

I did not get a boner.

This has been a (very trivial) PSA

"I blame pop culture. The Lost Boys, Buffy, Interview with the Vampire, and Twilight. Each generation gets its own sexy vampire boys.

Prior to that vampires were gothic, other worldly, chilling, nightmare-inducing and frightening now all we seem to get is teenage vampire angst.

Bring back Nosferatu and Kurt Barlow (No relation to either Ken or Gary - well nothing that has been proven)….

Well vampires and most supernatural/folklore beings are a reflection of the zeitgeist. I'd rather Nosferatu wasn't brought back, that whole caricature of a Jewish person with the pronounced nose, the accent... personally I'd rather not return to those times. Now the link between vampires and bats makes much more sense!

Somewhere In The Ether…

The sexual appeal of vampires (at least the romanticised Hollywood image of them as opposed to the ghastly and repugnant preternatural creatures that feature in folklore) is likely due to a combination of factors:

The power they hold both physical and magical (shapeshifting etc), the ability to entrance a victim - an expressly dominant trait, their immortality (and the ability to bequeath it unto others), the fact that they frequently draw blood from the neck (an erogenous zone) and if one watches a film such as Blade, it is clearly evident that they know how to party hard to

Blame Bram Stoker, for his Irish passionate soul and his romantic gotic invention.
