Horror Movies

So generally speaking, I'm not usually a fan of horror movies. They tend to be very clichéd and not very scary a lot of the time. Of course there's some brilliant horrors like Poltergeist, Hell Raiser, The Omen. Then it dawned on me that 2 of my favourite films of all time across any genre are horrors. So much so I've got tattoos relating to these films. Silence of the Lambs and Pan's Labyrinth.

I appreciate that is a long winded introduction to ask what are everyone else's favourite horror movies?

Definitely a horror. Great film.

I'd go as far to say Terminator 1 and Alien were horrors. The sequels were definitely action though.

It changes.

I've realised a lot of my favourite things change frequently and I'm really rather awful at this sort of question.

I love Korean horror. Adore Guillermo Del Toro so much, less so the poignancy that seems to a trademark. Ari Aster's catalogue is fantastic although surreal would be an understatement at times.

Right now I'd say my top three would be...

Midsommar (the basic millennial stock answer)

Train to Busan

The Thing.

I’m a hardcore horror film fan and very few get to me. However and I still don’t understand why, but the Blair Witch Project really freaked me out a bit. I understand the criticism but it hit home with me.

Night of the Demon, one of the first films I loved.

Midsommar last one I have watched more than twice.

Night of the Lepus for B Movie magic, so funny but entertaining for me.

I've never really seen a film that's scared me. My mum Would rent me the nightmare on elm st movies, hellraiser, the howling, poltergeist and other horrors of the time so I think built up a bit of a tolerance for 'scary' films as a young child.

My old dear didn’t purposely rent these titles for me but I still watched them all without her knowing and it definitely made me immune

Ones that got me out

Eden Lake

Wolf Creek

Kill List

Hereditary

But the one that got me the most isn't a horror but a mild (to some) supernatural thriller with Richard Gere. The Mothman Prophecies.

It's got great sound and some REALLY eerie camera shots that still creeps me out as much as 1st time seeing.

"The Terminator "

Glad someone else sees this as a horror movie, rather than a sci fi action flick. It's like neo-noir, Sci fi zombie movie at it's bare bones. T2 is awesome and most people prefer T2, but I think The Terminator is a better film and I definitely prefer it. Although they're different genres and it's like comparing apples and oranges.

You besmirch the Great Danny Boyle against Paul WS Anderson. The guy is a filmic genius where Anderson is a hack who's not made one good movie is his entire filmography. EH is ok at best.

Sunshine was excellent and wasn't looking to compete.

This is a great interview around the time of release with Brian Cox in attendance too

I'm not entirely sure what I like in horror films, sometimes the violence is necessary for getting the right feel, but at other times I've found some disgusting and outright offensive?

I miss when they were weird and creative, seeing one from the 80s recently where people become zombies after eating this strange alien ice cream

I've seen a few, anything involving animals, babies and children makes me feel angry immediately.

Something that springs to mind was one of the Hills Have Eyes films (I think it was) where one of the women gets r**ed by a mutant. We've already established that these things are murderous and horrible, going that far just felt like the directors didn't know where to stop, and it went beyond the realms of horror into lowlife bad taste.
