The more I sit and think the more I realise my circle of friends is minimal.

I lost lots when I divorced, have colleagues at work and only see them at work, then my wonderful friends on here.

Are you in a similar situation, or do you have a good circle of friends?

Brighton - even Hove!

Most people I know are married with kids and jobs and very little time to meet up for drinks. Work colleague drinks on occasion....a BBQ for people we don't see all year in the summer...that's about it. I'm here for the social side as well.

The Town by The Cross

I have a firmly fixed idea of what I believe a freind is.

I have very many people around me. Very m any associates and socialisers and very few friends - by choice.

I don't call every person I like a friend.

Likeability isn't the main factor.

I have lots of "acquaintances" .....

Not now, but was a few years back. Although I am choosy (some may say snobbish..) about who I choose to call a friend, there are a number of major occurrences in life which can almost instantaneously affect your circle of friends, just as if you have recently acquired the plague. Bereavement is one, marriage or relationship breakup/down (delete as appropriate) are is another, but there are more.

Real friends are those who will still take the time to cross the street to say 'Hi' even after all the troubles you have been through and don't take sides. They are also the ones who, even though you haven't seen them for years (in one case that happened to me recently, not for 25 years..) you can pick up where you left off like it was yesterday..

But real friends are few in number in ones humble experience...

I know lots of people but very few close friends, to quote a lyric plenty of "how you doing? ain't seen you for years". Partly by design, partly by default.

I've a few very close friends mainly males and I've lots of work friends etc. I sadly lost a lot of friends when my husband died I think they just didn't know how to react with me

I lost most of my friends when I became very ill, lost my job and separated from my ex all within months of one another.

I only have one or two close friends now, and prefer to keep it that way

Tattershall

I'm with tongue in groove and Brightonsteve on this one. As i didn't 'grow up' in this area i don't have the group of school/college friends to fall back on. most of those I made friends with when i moved here are now married with young families and have little time for getting out socially; work colleagues travel to work from all over and you don't really see them socially....luckily there are a couple of good pubs with friendly pubbers so always a good atmosphere even if out on own...hence this mornings hangover
