Cameras inside the house

Speaking to someone today, she sends me a video. Video is from a weird angle.

"Is that.. CCTV?"

"Oh yeh, I have cameras all around the house now, wouldn't feel safe without them"

Now, personally I would never have cameras inside my house - far too much scope for abuse. But I do see the value in doing it for safety, especially if you're inviting strange people off the internet to your house.

Do you have cameras inside your house?

No. If I did I’d have one pointing at the front door and the back door.

I don’t have anything worth stealing!

Safety, as in "if I have a camera pointing at my bed, I have evidence if it's ever needed" sort of thing.

Don’t you have to notify folk they are being filmed in that instance? Because who is to say that video won’t end up on some Voyuer category on a porn site?

I ANAL but, no, I don't think you need to inform anyone, so long as you don't share the footage. Personal use on private property, I think, is legal.

Gives me the willies, regardless

No, but I know people who do. At work one of the Dads was telling me about watching his kids through the cam...."cam?" I asked and got told they have them all around the house to monitor the kids as they wfh. Creeped me out a bit if I'm honest.

Not sure how it stands with privacy laws, your family members and guests have the right to not have their privacy infringed surely

This is actually much more common in my experience, we used one with our kids, just so we could see what was happening in there in the first few months without disturbing them.

Had them out before they were 18 months old, mind, I don't want to be monitoring them that closely.

We have a camera in the kitchen only. Just so I can check our little sausage dog is OK when we're out.

Bedroom monitors to check in during sleep I understand but not around the whole house

If you were to meet someone at their house for sex, or any reasonable expectation of privacy, the camera operator may fall foul of voyeurism laws.

"Landlady in Essex (Airbnb) has CCTV outside and in the kitchen. (She told me.)"

AirBnBs should not have cameras inside the property.

Not really bothered if she has cameras or not tbh. I'm only there to work.....plus we're no longer going through the website.
